GNOME Boxes resizing the disk
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
I'm playing with Boxes and need to resize the virtual disk which I had
done through the graphical interface. Now I need to resize the disk
probably by booting from the ISO disk and can't find anyway to do that.
If someone could point out how to do that, or where to find the
information I would really appreciate.
Thank you.

How can I figure out what yum/systemd is doing?
by Dave Johansen
Over an hour ago, I started a "yum remove" in F21 and it seems to have hung
at removing the 2nd of 8 rpms. I noticed that systemd was using ~40% of a
CPU and so I left figuring it might just "work itself out", but now over an
hour later, it's still hung and system is still using a lot of CPU. What
can I do to try and diagnose what is going wrong with yum and/or systemd?
Thanks,
Dave

Flash drive question -
by Bob Goodwin
I have two flash drives I cleared of data and somehow put them in a
condition where they do not show up on the desktop display and I do not
know how to access them, there must be a way?
Both are detected when plugged in:
[bobg@box10 ~]$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 004: ID 154b:6545 PNY FD Device
What do I need to do access them?

The (non-intuitive) solution is to make a new panel on the first screen,
then use alt-click to drag it to the second screen where you can set its
orientation and content to taste. If someone knows how to script this,
that would be nice.

Different behaviour running under strace?
by Tom Horsley
Here's a weird one: A system at work has (God knows why) a
gazillion symlinks directly under / pointing to NFS mountpoints
for filesystems (some of which might well have high latency).
If I run "df -l", using the -l option in the apparently
vain hope that it might not timeout forever on some NFS
mount, it hangs for a long time.
If I try to discover which mountpoint it hangs at by running
"strace df -l", it no longer hangs. All the stat calls run
fast, and df prints the info on the local filesystems.
There isn't supposed to be any difference running under
strace (except maybe for setuid and such), any clues what
weird rabbit hole this is going down?
I'm tempted to alias df to strace -o /dev/null df :-).

MATE on dual screen, put a panel on secondary screen?
by Fred Smith
hi all!
Experimenting with dual screens on F20 using MATE. Video card is Nvidia 9800GT
using Nvidia drivers from rpmfusion:
kmod-nvidia.x86_64 1:331.113-1.fc20.5 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
So, I've got it configured, using the nvidia X-Server Settings tool and it
works nicely sofar.
But I'd kinda like trying it with a set of panels on the second screen much
like (if not identical to) those on the main screen.
But so far I've not figured out how to add a panel to the second screen.
The context menu (right-click on a panel) for "new panel" offers no options,
it just sticks it on the first screen. I can't drag it, it just seems to
want to sit there.
Can someone advise me if thereis a way to do what I want? some arcane
incantation on the commandline, perhaps?
thanks!

Fedora Xfce screen lock -
by Bob Goodwin
I recently installed Fedora 21 on another computer using the "Fedora
Xfce spin" and have been unable to find a menu item permitting me to
stop it from requiring re-entry of my password after several [I haven't
counted them] minutes idle. I was able to disable the screen saver but
this problem is even more annoying.
Certainly there must be a file I can change to fix this? Or perhaps I am
not looking at the right settings menu. Any suggestion appreciated.

Best Way to Handle Packages
by Kelly Miller
I've mentioned it here before, but I'm not a huge fan of the current
options for checking out and installing Fedora packages. I notice a lot of
people mention just using yum/dnf directly, but I'm wondering what people
normally use to just check out new packages.
So how do people on this list normally handle package management?

Audacity users - quick check - can you open .wav OK ?
by Development discussions related to Fedora
Hi, I'm wondering whether I have a machine specific problem. Can you try
using audacity to open a wave .wav file ?
Try:
- from the File|Open menu
- from File|Import|Audio menu
- file manager and open with audacity
Do you get the normal waveform drawn ?

problem playing video DVD
by JD
Rented a DVD movie (the 3rd in the series Atlas Shrugged).
It would not play with any media player (such as smplayer, vlc, Dragon
Player, xine, totem, ... etc)
No errors in /var/log/messages.
I told the vendor, and they stuck it into a machine the "tests" it for
playability.
It took 5 seconds and it declared it playable :) :) Whatever ....
The surface seemed OK on visual inspection.
So, what could have gone wrong?
Anyone have this problem?
