f20 lvm - inactive LV
by Michal Kopacki
hello,
This is my first post to that list so hello everyone.
After a few years break, I've decided to take Fedora on test drive (last Fedora I've seen was something around 11; I use centos/redhat on daily basis) and I must say there are many changes here (good and bad ones). Anyway, below my problem:
There is this thing with LVM which I can't understand - I did create few VGs and LVs and add them to fstab (as default) but after that strange things started to happen during system boot. It seems that not all LVs are activated during system boot (kind of randomness here). I came to this solution that I need to put all LVs I want to be mounted by default as kernel parameter (ie rd.lvm.lv=rootvg/rootlv).
I can live with that when it comes to "system" LVs but problem is that I have many "non os" LVs on that machine and putting all of them as a kernel param doesn't seem right.
1. Am I doing something wrong ?
2. Is there new method other than default in fstab ?
3. What for "rd.lvm.lv" is ?

Lenovo T430 VGA mess
by Pal, Laszlo
Hi,
I'm looking for someone with Lenovo T430 :) Currently I'm trying to
fix my fault when my working environment became a bit messy :) It is
related to the two vga cards in this laptop. There is an integrated
one (Intel HD4000) and an NVDIA Quadro. I've tried to use Quadro by
installing official drivers from Nvidia, but my X won't boot unless I
change BIOS to discrete graphics (which is ok, since still no optimus
support in linux drivers...:()
So it booted once but after that it says device not exists... I've
tried the nouveau driver, but it still not the best. Currently I'm
using intel, but it is not the same feeling as it was before (my
laptop lcd resolution is terrible, but the analogue port is fine....
for example)
So, what I'm really looking for is a good xorg.conf and the list of
installed drivers. I'm running FC20
Thanks

security
by Dustin Kempter
Hi,
we have a server (CentOS 6.4) running PostgreSQL, recently someone shut the
db down and we want to find out who did this...
I see the db shutdown request in the postgresql log, and I suspect it was
run as root (as a service) because we do not see any relevant shutdown
commands in the postgres user's bash history file
Can someone point me in the right direction per figuring this out, who ran
the command (I suspect it was root)? If so, where did the offending login
come from (I.P.)? etc...
Thanks

RE: Java under Fedora
by Patrick Kobly
Add the servlet API JAR to the classpath (with -cp or CLASSPATH env variable). Or use Maven to build your projects and define the dependencies appropriately.

comcast
by Michael Hennebry
I'm trying to find a message.
Once upon a time, someone on this list wrote that
he could always rely on comcast to do the wrong thing.
I think that the context was either throttling or availability of ports.
Even with site:lists.fedora.org ,
comcast and "wrong thing" are not very restrictive.
It was probably several years ago.
If you are reading this, please respond.

Music Libraries
by Hunter Jozwiak
Hi guys. I have a question about making a link to my music library, who
resides on my Windows partition. My goal is to have a music library reside
on my partition and not have to copy it over to my Fedora partition, who is
a little scrapped for space. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Java under Fedora
by Timothy Murphy
I have a problem compiling a Java servlet program under Fedora-20.
I'm not sure if the problem arises from my ignorance -
I haven't used Java for several years, and never with servlets -
or if the issue is the Java setup under Fedora,
or thirdly, if there has been a change in the organisation of Java,
and in particular in the configuration of the CLASSPATH.
In any case, I have been trying to compile the servlet HelloWorld.java
from <http://www.tutorialspoint.com/servlets/servlets-first-example.htm>
When I run "javac HelloWorld.java" I get a number of errors like
HelloWorld.java:12: error: cannot find symbol
public class HelloWorld extends HttpServlet {
I see that this class is in /usr/share/java/tomcat-servlet-api.jar
and if I expand this jar file in the current directory
then the compilation succeeds.
But it is not sufficient to copy the jar file to the current directory
(or to put a link to it in /usr/lib/java/ .)
My question is: what should I do to ensure that javac sees this jar file
without expanding it in this way?

best place to set up/initialize tap intefaces
by lejeczek
hi everybody
I'm trying using dracut to set up taps that would survive
system reboots.
Normally I'd make a custom dracut module but I cannot get to
work on f19
is it still dracut or maybe there is a better way?
how would you do it?
many thanks
P.
