VM access to base system files
by Robert Moskowitz
Well I got my first VM created and in it. Got Firefox installed and
adblock plugged in...
There are two things I want to do next.
First to access files in my base system. Like my real /home/me stuff.
So far my searching how to do this has come up empty.
Next I will want to set up firefox to run proxy through an SSH tunnel to
a server on my net. This is for when I am on the road to give me a
trusted connection for a number of things. But hopefully this will be a
'simple' SSH tunnel with port 80/443 proxy support.
thanks

Evolution not filtering
by Mike Chambers
In Fedora 21, using evolution-3.12.9, in KDE (maybe it happens in gnome
as well?), anyone having trouble with evolution not downloading all the
emails, via imap, as in just stops? Mine does that, and if I close it,
then open again, it shows and gets the emails. And sometimes it either
doesn't filter at all, or it does, and acts like it leaves a copy
showing in the inbox? Had no issues with the version from fedora 20 at
all.

New to building VMs. Build stalled at 597/1241
by Robert Moskowitz
I have finally buckled down to learn to make a VM.
Now I probably bit off a bit much.
I am installing from my local repo. For some reason it said this is a
test image. My netinst to this notebook did not say that. Something MAY
be left over in my repo from the beta.
I then specified the URL of my updates repo. This worked fine both on
this notebook and my Asus i386 notebook.
I then selected Xfce desktop and really a minimal set of tools, on 10Gb
storage. The install started and for the last ~2 hours it has been
sitting at 597/1241 on the install status. The message is installing yum.
I can access my repo server, though I don't see any activity on it.
I have been following the instructions at:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Getting_started_with_virtualization
And am using the GUI virutual manager.

Saving ios data -
by Bob Goodwin
Can iPhone data be saved to my Fedora-21 computer and be transferred to
another iPhone. This seems to be a common problem in this family when
they get new phones. Apparently they are putting the stuff on an iCloud
server and that raises hell with my bandwidth usage numbers ... It seems
to me it should be possible to store it locally?

Getting to GUI in F21
by Beartooth
I have an old Dell PowerEdge SC1420, which ceased to be a server
or to have any form of RAID years ago, when I inherited it. Over the
years,
I've run many releases of Fedora on it, one or two of CentOS, and I
disremember
what all else.
Some OSs figure out my HP w2207h monitor on contact, even from
behind the KVM switch where I normally keep the SC1420; the last few
Fedora
releases have been good about that, iirc.
Some OSs don't find out how to display anything while behind the
switch, but do if I shut everything down and connect the Dell directly
and alone to the peripherals.
Some OSs never get it; I have had to tinker endlessly with
xorg.conf a/o grub.conf.
But now F21 doesn't get it, and I can't seem to find a file that
will let me tell it there is such a thing as a 27" 1680x1050 terminal.
(The only plausible candidates so far open with DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE, and
a reference to the other files that set them; but I'm drawing a blank
about any way to reset the setting files.)
I can ssh into it, and have been updating it regularly; a few
days ago it even accepted a fedup (nonproduct).
Also, for a little while today, I had a Gnome3 display; I managed
to open a Mate-terminal; but before I could get to a panel, much less a
workspace switcher (one of my must-haves), it suddenly jumped into a
display that looked like a few lines torn from the normal boot messages.
I couldn't faze that, and finally hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. That got me
to a normal looking boot, except for one "FAILED," which went by too fast
to read. Then, for a little while, it went back to the Gnome3 screen, in
which I had begun adding and removing apps.
It didn't want to start yumex as root *nor* as user; so I told it
"yum remove evolution," thinking it would keep the data-server, or
whatever that thing is that stays when I remove Evolution with Yumex. It
didn't, and chaos ensued -- till it hit the abominable error message from
the monitor, saying "Input out of range."
Clue, please?

mozilla-adblockplus-2.6.6-1 shows 2.6.4 installed
by Andre Robatino
I have mozilla-adblockplus-2.6.6-1 installed in F21 (was just pushed stable
in F19, F20, and F21). Firefox's Add-ons/Extensions still shows 2.6.4, even
after quitting and restarting Firefox, and removing and reinstalling
mozilla-adblockplus. Do other people see this? (I'm guessing it happens in
all browsers and is Fedora-specific. I don't see any mention in the Adblock
Plus forum.)
