Soundblaster
by Antonio Montagnani
I have two similar PC (old Pentium but workin fine)
In Pc no.1 I upgraded from RH8 to Fedora and it went fine: Soundblaster
is working fine
In Pc no.2 I made a fresh installation but in redhat-sound-config Fedora
doesn't see any card, that was working on Redhat 9 after soundconfig...
Where is the trick?? I assume that my Sounblaster is an old 16...but
fine on a router/firewall.
Tnx

Tablet hardware
by Florian Weimer
Is there any tablet-like hardware which is well-supported by Fedora 20
and later? Something with a high-resolution display?
I don't need 3D acceleration beyond what's needed to run a typical
desktop environment, but I'd like to have lots of RAM, a bit of CPU
power (perhaps even a current Core i7) and an SSD with decent read
speed.

[OT] Compiling a module for the Fedora kernel
by Klaus-Peter Schrage
I am having a permanent fan problem with my obviously esoteric graphics
card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 630, see [1], [2]) for which I found a viable,
but tediuos workaround:
- get the kernel src.rpm
- apply a specific patch to the nouveau driver
- build and install new kernel rpms (see [3]).
I still have to do this on Fedora 21 with the actual kernel version
3.17.6-300, and I fear it will last a while until this problem might be
addressed (if ever).
Now doing this the way described in [3] always means copying and moving
GBs of code (not to mention the build time), although just a few lines
of code are affected.
So I thought about rebuilding only the nouveau module instead of
compiling the complete kernel source each time the Fedora kernel gets an
update. Of course, there are lots of instructions available on building
kernel modules, but I found none that refers to a Redhat/Fedora kernel
source (there is a section 'Building Only Kernel Modules' in the wiki
[3], but this is sort of inapprehensible for me and seems to be outdated).
So any hint would be greatly appreciated.
Klaus

KVM/QEMU remote connection
by Glenn Holmer
I'm trying to connect to another machine using virt-manager (File/Add
Connection). I select QEMU/KVM as hypervisor, "connect to remote host",
method SSH, and a username and hostname on the remote machine. The
result is always that I get prompted for my passphrase, but then see
"authentication failed: no agent is available to authenticate". I get
this going from either machine to the other.
Virtualization is set up OK because I can run virtual machines on both
VM hosts. SSH is set up OK, I can ssh with public key in both directions
both as myself and as root. I tried "setenforce 0" on both machines to
see if SELinux was blocking it, but the result was the same.
What am I missing?

Evolution 3.10.4 and Fedora 20
by Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,
I have about 6 desktop's running F20 with evolution 3.10.4 that have had
problems related to the desktop gui 'freezing'. I can go to a terminal
interface by hitting <cntrl><alt>F2, and when I toggle back to the gui
it is still not usable. The screen is filled with the last object
displayed in this case it is always evolution that does not respond, and
I am unable to switch to anything else on the gui. All panels are
unaddressable.
At first I thought the problem was gpaste so I removed it on a test
desktop. The symptoms appeared less often but were still present. It
seems to hang with evolution.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me debug this.
Thank you for your help.

Can't get tftpd working
by Robert Moskowitz
I have two F21 systems on the same subnet. Client and server.
On the server I created a directory /root/tftp with 777 permissions.
I have opened up the tftpd service with the firewall gui interface and
firewall-cmd --zone=public --list-all
shows services includes tftp (I am assuming here that firewalld knowns
that tftp is a udp app)
The server is running tftpd in foreground under sudo:
in.tftpd -Lc4pv -s /root/tftp
The client connects with 'tftp server' and gets tftp> prompt. A status
shows the client is connected to the server (thus firewall is allowing
connection). But a put fails with 'Transfer timed out'.
There are no messages logged. I have tried increasing verbosity with
'vvv' but no logging.
I have even created a file on the server under /root/tftp and tried to
'get' it, which also timed out.
So what am I missing here?
