reproduce similar webserver as webhosting companies
by Rafnews
Hi,
i have a web server running on fedora. This web server is only for
applicatons testing purposes.
when i installed apache 2.4 it automatically create a group and an user
apache.
All files/folder that are under /publi_html should have apache as
user/group permissions.
This webserver runs in virtual machine and has its own IP address.
now i need to reach this webserver from a windows workstation and
edit/add/delete files and folders from the public_html directory.
i can not use my default user account as this account can just read
files but can't edit/delete or add files/folder as standard permissions
are 644 for files and 705 for folders.
i was thinking to perfom all actions (delte/move/edit...) in this
public_html directory under apache account, but as apache account was
installed automatically i do not have the password.
So what is the default password for apache user account ?
I guess there is better solution as on webhosting servers, you do not
have apache user account, but a different one.
so please, could you tell me how webhosting companies manage that (in
order to reproduce a very similar way at home) ?
thx.

audio in wireshark: how?

I want to play back some recorded voip calls in wireshark, but I get no
audio when I press "play". Audio/video playback in firefox works fine.
What secret sauce do I need to make this work?

Chron curiosity
by Geoffrey Leach
I have this line in /etc/crontab:
30 23 * * * geoff /usr/local/bin/fp.pl
which executes the program every day at 2330. The script terminates by
executing system 'sudo systemctl start poweroff.target';
Generally this works as expected.
However, when I realize that the shutdown happened too soon, and I
restart the system, it re-executes the script.
Any suggestions as to where I've gone wrong?
Thanks.

F18: GDM sometimes won't load desktop
by Anthony
Howdy All,
For some reason, there are times when I log into the system and it
simply won't load the desktop. The GDM shows me the login prompt, I
select my username, enter my password, and it says 'Logged In' with the
little green checkmark next to it. But it just sits there. It doesn't
load the desktop and the only way to get to the desktop is to restart
the system and log in again.
This happens with no rhyme or reason. Just 'sometimes' and always at
system boot.
I'm running F18, fully patched, with XFCE as the DE.
Has anyone experienced this? How do I fix it?
Thanks!

What about KVM VMs when Suspending?
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi all,
I read a bit about the difference between "Hibernate" and "Suspend".
I use my laptop as virtualization host too, and wonder what about the
VMs when Suspending.
I works fairly well when no VM is launched.
What is suposed to happen if I have KVM VMs started?

Dual head on F18: good and bad
by Bill Murray
Dear Fedora fans,
I have a dual head system with an HP monitor on DVI and
samsung on VGA.
It was working with both at 1280x1024, but gnome 3 in fallback mode.
Some update
last week suddenly brought the gnome-3 experience. Progress!
Unfortunately it also
no longer find the Samsung monitor correctly. I append below a snippet
from Xorg.log
from a month ago (top) and today (bottom).
I think /etc/X11/xorg.conf is deprecated. Can anyone suggest how I
force in higher
resolution now? Or guess what might _really_ be wrong?
Thank you,
Bill
