experience running Fedora 18 on Asus UX-31A?
by Ranjan Maitra
Hello everyone,
Does anyone have experience with running Fedora 18 on an Asus UX-31A?
If so, any pluses/minuses? Is it a good quality machine? Here are the
details of the machine:
http://commercial.asus.com/assets//pdf/datasheet-ux31a.pdf
Many thanks,
Ranjan

Handbrake for f18 x86_64?
by Neal Becker
Any place to find an rpm (or srpm) for recent Handbrake (0.9.9)?
I briefly tried building from source, but didn't get very far (and no, it
doesn't look like a problem with my not installing the deps).

Device Drivers in Fedora 18
by Alan Findly
Dear users,
I am on the verge of a rather thorough hardware upgrade, ie.
motherboard/cpu, and in addition want to migrate from XP 32 to Fedora 18
64. So, now it occurs to me that all the drivers from Windoze will be
gone--are there drivers in the Fedora CD package, or will I have to hunt
them down? Actually, there may be a more basic driver issue--namely,
running the CD player itself: the driver won't be loaded yet. Is this a
problem? I also have an ISO image on USB, if needed.
Thanks for any info.

ICMPv6 Neighbour Solication request is not answered by linux when IPv6 address is assigned via Netlink code.
by Norah Jones
Hi,
I have a process which is running as a linux service and assigns IP addresses using netlink to configued interface in linux.
For IPv4 addresses i do not see any issue with this assignment.
When i try to assign an IPv6 address, the address gets assigned successfully to the interface, but the Neighbour Solication request received for that address is not responded with and hence ping6 from a different machine doesn't work.
When i take the same netlink code and run it in a sample program the address gets assigned and the Neighbour solicitation is responded with a advertisement and hence ping6 works.
IP assigned by the program : 7000::15/32
IP on client machine from where ping6 is done : 7000::17/32.
Bot machines are connected to same Layer-2 switch.
I have flushed the ip6tables on both the machines just to rule out any firewall issues.
Thanks,
Norah Jones

RE: What's the real-world usage of a TPM module?
by J.Witvliet@mindef.nl
It should not be much different from storing LUKS-key-files on a smartcard.

I find this interesting. I wounder if it can be used to store the
passphrase for LUKS encrypted partitions... Anyone on Fedora tried this?

F19 - How to use alias network interface?
by Cristian Sava
Hi all,
I need to have alias network interfaces.
What is the desired way to do this in F19?
My actual setup (without alias):

I need some addresses from local to be accessible from outside, so alias
interface is needed. Not any local device knows other than basic
routing. That is why I need another subnet, so alias.
Let's say 193.x.y.162 from (placed) local visible from outside.
(I can do it with F18/Centos, etc.)
What is the desired/proposed way in F19?
Using network instead NM failed (no name resolution) in my testing. Do I
miss something? May I hope/wait for a fix in F19?
Why the interface name is p5p1 and p4p1, different from ifcfg-enp5s0
etc.? Is anywhere explained this?
In F18 docs there was a promise to have to choose between firewalld and
iptables, not implemented until now (can be manually done but it is not
trivial for anyone).

Password problem
by Frank McCormick
Just installed Fedora 19 ( I know questions are supposed to go to that
list, but this is more of a
general thing).
I was having a lot of problems with the GDM login manager so I disabled
it and installed
lightdm.
Everything was working fine UNTIL I tried to change my password to
something I could
remember - the steup forces you to pick one which can't be easily broken.
Now the login manager tells me both the old and new passwords are wrong.
So basically I can't get into
the system. I tried the recovery kernel but it simply takes me to the
login manager, unlike the recovery options
on my Fedora 17 and 18 systems.
Can someone offer a suggestion ( I'm writing this in my Debian system)
Thanks

how to make user account partially bi-lingual?
by William Mattison
(Fedora-18; all desktops)
A user needs all
* menu entries, buttons, prompts, messages, application icon labels, etc.
within
* desktops (Gnome, KDE, Xfce, etc.), all LibreOffice applications, vi, etc.
to be English.
But he needs to be able to both
* enter and view
text in both
* English and simplified Chinese
within
* vi, all LibreOffice applications, internet e-mail (Yahoo mail, gmail, etc.), etc.
where most files/messages will contain a mix of English and simplified Chinese.
How does root and/or the user set up his account so he always has these abilities? In effect, we want the account to be bi-lingual, with English as the primary language, and simplified Chinese being a secondary language.
Thank-you in advance for your help.
Bill.

Ok, so where do mysql bugs go, these days?
by Sam Varshavchik
So, I've been tearing apart mysql-connector-odbc-5.1.11-1.fc18.x86_64
And I've tracked down some horrible breakage there that needs to be fixed
upstream.
Given the state of mysql in the distro, and the pending move to mariadb,
I'm wondering where the best place to report this bug would be. I find
nothing but Oracle's bureaucratease, when I try to dig around mysql.com.
