Problem with stereo audio stream through VOIP
by Anthony
Hello Everyone,
Anytime I'm in a VOIP conversation, the user can hear themselves as
well as me. It's not normal audio feedback as I can put my headset on
and play music with the speakers completely off and they will hear the
music. So it sounds like everything that's coming through the stereo
mix is being fed back to the remote user.
This is also happening on SIP calls to regular phone numbers and is
annoying to the remote users.
Any way to correct this?
Thanks!

Installing Grub2 on /dev/sdc giving warning and an error.
by Aero Maxx D
Hi Everyone,
I've just installed Fedora 17 as a fresh install and setup Raid 10, its
all working, and does boot ok.
However when installing grub on each of the 4 drives one of them doesn't
like it, or something isn't right and I am not sure what the issue is as
the 3 drives don't complain.
I have a 500mb raid partition on each of the 4 drives, and then have
created a raid 1 device that is mapped to /boot mount point.
the rest of the space is also assigned a fixed size and mapped to a raid
partition, I have then created a raid device which is mapped to a LVM,
and then created the usually group, and the lv_root, lv_swap, lv_home
groups within it.
I have then done grub2-install /dev/sda, this returned "Installation
finished. No error reported" as did /dev/sdb and /dev/sdd.
When I did grub2-install /dev/sdc this came back with a warning and a
error of the following, then quits back to the prompt, it boots ok is
this anything for me to worry about ?.
/usr/sbin/grub2-bios-setup: warning: this GPT partition label contains
no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
/usr/sbin/grub2-bios-setup: error: embedding is not possible, but this
is required for RAID and LVM install.
Thanks
Daniel.

performance issues - NFS (automount) and (almost) diskless client
by Jeffrey Ross
This is my first stab at using the auto mount for NFS and its been a very
long time since I've played with NFS.
I have two systems running Fedora, the NFS server which is running Fedora
16, and the client which is running Fedora 19 (beta), both are X86_64
The server, it's running RAID-1 (for all partitions including the boot
partition, the client has a boot disk but is auto mounting the home
directories from the server. The server is also serving window's CIFS
shares. (also the home directory to several Windows 7 systems)
My /etc/auto.misc entry on the client reads:
home -rw,auto,suid,sync server:/home
The exports entry looks like:
/home
172.18.19.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,sync,no_subtree_check)
Network connectivity is 100Mb/s FDX ethernet (through a Cisco 2948 switch)
What I am seeing is basic file access is good but when I run a browser
(Firefox) on the client I can see a large amount of disk I/O on the server
(looking at the HD LED indicator) and performance is sluggish. I suspect
its the browser cache files and I could probably pick better options for
performance, I think for starters I probably want async instead of sync.
The other question, is it possible to leave just the browser cache files
locally? I know I can leave the users' home directories local and then
mount the NFS directory someplace within the home directory, but that's
ugly and its too easy to leave files in the local home directory which
defeats the purpose of having a dedicated fileserver.
Thanks, Jeff

Who screwed up ClamAV in F18?
by Michael H. Warfield
Ok... (Before anyone tells me I need to) I will be filing a bugzilla
report on this later today but someone did a bad thing in ClamAV.
If you install the latest packages from the update repositories, they
url chunks unable to create the clamupdate user and group. Problem
appears to be in the clamav-update package.
During the yum install of the clamav packages...

I've had to add that user and group by hand on some of my real systems
but that's not possible in building the NST (Network Security Toolkit)
<http://www.networksecuritytoolkit.org/nst/index.html> respins of F18
since those are building bootable iso images.
Obviously, it only affects fresh installs where someone installs ClamAV
on a new system (or, at least, one that hasn't had it on there before).
If the UID and GID already exist on the system, there's not a problem.
Regards,
Mike

replacing lxdm with slim
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
In Fedora 17 and before, I could successfully replace lxdm with slim
just by uninstalling one (lxdm) and installing slim. Doing so in Fedora
18 does not "work". By that, I mean that I do not get the graphical
display with slim: instead, I get a text prompt and I have to login
with password, following which I have to type startx. Following a load
of text I am then put into the LXDE desktop screen.
What exactly do I need to do in F18 to get back the "old experience"?
Happy to provide more information: I am not sure what would be helpful
and where to start.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

lvm from NAS
by Ricardo Mendoza Huerta
Hi, I will try to recover some folder deleted from one disk that is part of
RAID 1 using Fedora Security Lab
scenario:
1. Is a disk from NAS iomega StorCenter ix2 (two disk, RAID 1)
2. this nas was configured to obtain accounts from a Active Directory users
3. with the web interface of the NAS, a shared folder from some user was
deleted.
4. this NAS haven't a recovery tool for deleted files and folders.
5. I was attach one of the two disk on Backtrack live then the same disk
on Centos and I discover this:
- I can't mount the disk (backtrack say me "is a lvm2pv", centos ask me for
a disk format)
- Disk format: 83 Linux (with centos)
- pvscan, vgscan, lvscan don't work properly, because there are no volumes
to restore. and this is OK because I don't want to restore the RAID.
I need to recover some foldes from this disk, I don't need to reconstruct
the RAID 1.
How can a do this with FSL
I will appreciate your aids.
sincerely, Ricardo

Alien
by John Aldrich
I have an app that is available in three formats: Mac, Windows and .DEB.
I would like to install it on my Fedora box, but, obviously, Fedora
doesn't support .DEB files. So, I thought, why not use Alien to install
it? Except, there doesn't seem to be an Alien RPM for Fedora 18. The
most recent I could find was Fedora 16. Has Alien been abandoned? If
not, where can I find it?
Thanks!
