Booting issues
by Kinkaid, Kyle
Hi Fedora Wearers,
I'm having some boot problems on my Fedora 18 workstation, KDE Spin.
System background:
I have a Dell Precision workstation, with two HDs, and full disk
encryption. The two HDs are combined into three logical volumes, swap,
root, and /home.
Issue background:
I walked away from my computer and decided to enable screensaver and lock
by using the "screen lock" hot corder (sorry, forgot the KDE term). When I
came back the screen saver hadn't locked and I couldn't move the mouse
(system clock on the Task Manager hadn't moved either). I tried to recover
using various key presses, including Ctrl-Alt-F-key to open a new
terminal. Eventually I gave up and hard rebooted because nothing seemed to
work to unfreeze my system.
Current state:
After the hard reboot, Grub loads, the kernel starts and I type in my
encryption password like normal. But it eventually dumps me into emergency
mode, asking for root password. The file system is mounted RW and all my
files seem to be there as normal. When I type 'runlevel' it says "runlevel
unknown' and an 'init 3' or 'init 5' command brings up the Fedora booting
splash screen but drops me back to the command prompt without allowing me
to login.
What I've tried:
I checked the documentation (e.g.
here<http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/15/html/Installation_Guide/ap-...>)
and most of that seems to refer to grub not working, or volumes not
mounting, none of which applies to me. I checked /var/log/messages but
nothing seems to be obviously wrong in the logs.
Any advice on what could be wrong or what to try next?
Thanks,
Kyle

Blinking tab in Firefox -
by Bob Goodwin
I just updated F-18/64 XFCE and was surprised to find that I now have
some flashing tab titles in Firefox, at least "New Tab" and I would not
be surprised if there are more.
The yum log shows:
[root@box10 bobg]# cat /var/log/yum.log | grep firefox
Feb 27 10:03:48 Updated: firefox-19.0-1.fc18.x86_64
Mar 15 05:27:49 Updated: firefox-19.0.2-1.fc18.x86_64
Am I the only one afflicted with this or is it a new "feature?" If so
how do I stop it? I found nothing that seemed applicable doing
about:config and searching tabs.

Fedora 17 and exim-pgsql RPM
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks
I'm setting up a new server and trying to configure Exim. For the first time
I'm trying to use Postgresql with it, so have installed the exim-pgsql RPM
which silly me thought enabled Postgresql support.
However, I get errors on the
hide pgsql_server=(/tmp/.s.PGSQL_.5432)/exim/exim/<password>
What do I need to do to enable the pgsql support, or can someone at least
point me to a suitable Google search?

F17: How to set up VPN for Android?
by sean darcy
On F17 trying to configure Host2Host VPN to use with my galaxy nexus.
The Fedora wizard on requires a "remote address". I've tried 0.0.0.0,
which got an error of:
racoon: INFO: unsupported PF_KEY message REGISTER
I've also tried the internet facing interface.
When I tried to connect I get:
ERROR: exchange Identity Protection not allowed in any applicable rmconf.
What I obviously don't have is the whatever remote address the phone
will be assigned.
ConnectionType=Host2Host
EncryptionMode=auto
IKEKey=<inserted in android client>
IPsecld=gnexus
OnBoot=True
RemoteIPAddress= ?????
Can I set up the Fedora VPN for a "road warrior"?

How To Adjust Image Options When Setting Desktop Background...
by EGO-II.1
Figured I'd have to re-name the subject line in order to get a response?
Here's the original inquiry again:
I seem to recall someone posting the procedure to "restoring" the
Options for setting a desktop background (Center-Scale-Zoom-Tiles-etc) I
have a friend who's Dell Inspirion laptop was on its last legs, so I
assisted them in installing F18, but the feature for handling the
desktop background is gone...(missing? kidnapped?) Can anyone help with
what needs to be done in order to get it back?
Thanks To All

I'll give this a try and let you (and the list) know the outcome. I may need more help with that "URI" step.

I had already done this before I posted the problem. But thank-you for trying to help.

Not in my circles; I refuse to let people alternate the term.

So change it!!! Don't let them beat you into the ground; correct them!
IMO, "hack" has sort of a violent sound to it, which makes me feel it is more appropriate for a forceful entry type of context, and I am not surprised that most people assume that this is what it should mean. Furthermore. where I am from "cracker" is a more or less insulting racial term so it just leads to awkwardness. I do know the history of the term "hacker" but I have zero problems with the way it is used in the media.
