vsftpd and create a directory
by Rafnews
Hi,
i setup a FTP server on our local development server.
So as a developer i can upload and modify websites structure in
development steps.
everything works well except for 1 thing.
- ftp root is /var/www/html
in this directory i have several other directories like /joomla,
/magento etc...
in existing directories, i can easily create new subdirectories and files.
however, under the ftp root so under /var/www/html i'm not able to
create a new directory.
i check the user it is the same as the other directories owner (/joomla,
/magento, ..)
so what am i doing wrong ?
thx.

What do I have to do to open a terminal? (I'm running xfce under
F19 on a refurbished Thinkpad T30. It was doing fine with F18.)

duplicate rpm problem
by Frank McCormick
While updating my Fedora 19 system today using check-update I discovered
this:
** Found 1 pre-existing rpm db problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
cronie-1.4.10-7.fc19.i686 is a duplicate with cronie-1.4.10-6.fc19.i686
[root@localhost frank]#
It seems a few weeks ago Yum attempted to update cronie. as I recall
it failed because of a script problem in the package. I tried it a
second time
and seemingly it installed. But now I have the duplicate problem.
What's the best way to resolve this ?
Thanks

Unattended install right from the ISO boot to a working SSH login?
by Fernando Cassia
Is there a way to make Fedora install unattended, right from the boot
until I can SSH into it?.
I'd like being able to boot a new Virtualbox virtual machine right
from the Fedora XFCE ISO, and then from the Virtualbox host, ssh into
the brand new VM client and customize it using SSH shell scripts (SU,
yum install, etc).
Is there any way to tweak the ISO to specify "unattended install" and
the root password (to be later changed after VM is installed).?
The main idea is turning this into a bash script so I can download
whatever new Fedora version and to the VM install "automagically".
Thanks in advance.

F19:personal file sharing doesn't work
by Antonio M
when I want to share files in a easy way, I was used to Personal Files
Sharing.
Now I enabled it on my F19 systems (both in Gnome and Mate) but
something seems wrong:
When I open Resources/Network I see shares of computers A and B but:
working on A clicking on B I get :
Impossible to mount position
Error HTTP: Cannot connect to destination (PCdesktop.local)
Clicking on A (per quanto abbia senso) I get:
Impossible to mount the position
Error HTTP: Internal Server Error
Same if I work on B
any hint?? googling around didn't give me any clue
Tnx

initctl dead after update
by Martin S
I've installed Fedora 19 on a HP Proliant ML 110 server. It has run an
ownCloud CentOS testinstallation but should now be used for something else
so I reinstalled.
This has proved easier said than done, litterally.
After installation I get an update for some 500+ files, and this seems to
seriously fubar the system. It looks and behaves like this bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=789758
I haven't tried the solutions yet, prolly need to reinstall as now it takes
ages and ages to reboot (I killed the thing with the power switch).
On CentOS I simply get kernel panics after *that* update, which is why I
switched to Fedora to see if it was something local to CentOS (and still RH
derivative).
I'm going to leave the system booting, now hopefully it's up after lunch in
an hour or so (it's at the blue "f" icon at boot atm). Meanwhile, any ideas
what's going on?

cron job question (for checking kernel updates)
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have a cron job running which yum updates all my machines once a day.
All of these work fine.
I also have a cron job which checks for kernel updates every hour and
sends me a message if an updated kernel has been installed. Here is the
relevant script:
--- begin file called check-kernel.sh in my scripts/yum directory---
#!/bin/bash
latestkernel=$(rpm -q kernel |tail -n1|sed -e 's/kernel-//')
#echo "$latestkernel"
if uname -a | grep -qv "$latestkernel"; then
notify-send "Kernel UPDATE on ${HOSTNAME}: Running Kernel is $(uname
-r) but lat est installed rpm is ${latestkernel}; REBOOT required"
fi;
--- end file called check-kernel.sh ---
(A bit wordy, I know.)
I have verified that this is executable and works from the commandline
without any errors.
I have the following set up via crontab -e:
0,15,30,45 * * * * nice -n 19 $HOME/.xplanet/download_xplanet_cloudmap
5 * * * * nice -n 19 $HOME/scripts/yum/check-kernel.sh
The first line downloads cloudmaps for use with xplanet and works just
fine (or appears to) and has done so for aeons.
However, nothing happens (or appears to) for the second line.
What is wrong here?
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan
