enabliing junk mail in evolution
by Aaron Konstam
I have ben using junk mail processing in evolution since it appeared in
RedHat and/or Fedora Linux. I have never before been unable to enable
junk mail processing. But now in F17 it is not working for me. Below are
the instructions from the evolution help to enable Junk mail
processing.
But when I right click on a message there is no Junk Mail Settings
option. Any ideas out there other than ask the evolution list which I
will do if I get frustrated enough?
Enabling or Disabling Your Junk Mail List
1. Right-click on a message and select the Junk Mail
Settingsoption.
2. Specify whether you wish to Enable or Disable junk mail
handling.
3. Click on the OK button.

OK....
When you go to "System Settings->File Associations" AbiWord is at the top of the list of "Application Preference Order"?
I can recreate your issue if I move Firefox to the top and hit apply.
If AbiWord is a the top. Why not move it, hit Apply, then move it back, and hit Apply.

smart error

I've been looking at /var/log/messages and this has come up several times:

sssd died after boot
by Tiziana Manfroni
Hi, I have a host with RHEL6.3.
After boot sssd crash and in /var/log/sssd/sssd.log
(Mon Jul 23 17:56:56 2012) [sssd] [monitor_quit] (0x0010): Monitor received Terminated: terminating children
(Mon Jul 23 17:58:54 2012) [sssd] [mt_svc_exit_handler] (0x0010): Process [nss], definitely stopped!
If I run init script on command line sssd starts, but sometimes it dies also. Do you have any idea?
my /etc/sssd/sssd/conf:
[domain/labinfomat]
cache_credentials = True
krb5_store_password_if_offline = True
ipa_domain = labinfomat

auth_provider = ipa
access_provider = ipa
chpass_provider = ipa
ipa_dyndns_update = True
ipa_server = _srv_, archimede.labinfomat

[sssd]
services = nss, pam, ssh
config_file_version = 2
domains = labinfomat

Re: automount in fedora 17 SOLVED
by paul van der meij
The problem was that the firewall on my FC14 fileserver had port 111
(sunrpc) blocked.
The mount on my FC17 client does not use sunrpc, but the automount does.
After allowing port 111 everything worked fine, with everything default in
the autofs control files, so no extra nfs parameters.

IANAL, and I suspect you are not either. YMMV - employment law and intellectual property law differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

In some jurisdictions, this is assumed to be the case (with respect to work conducted for the employer / client) unless your contract / employment agreement explicitly retains rights.

Because in some jurisdictions, these clauses were found to be unenforceable in employment agreements (as they pertained to work produced that was not for the employer).

Surely wise advice. Also sage advice - consult a lawyer if you have doubts about your rights.

And if they do, it's generally the entity "distributing" the infringing material who bears the bulk of the liability. Which is why many projects (including the kernel) go to great lengths to establish attribution and do their due diligence to ensure that contributed code is not encumbered.

Rereate /etc/crypttab ?
by Frank Murphy
Though a rawhide vm.
More of a general question.
I can only boot to emergency shell in the vm itself
or if netinstall.iso cd is used.
and systmed is mounted under "chroot /mnt/sysimage"
all commands fail due to "running in chroot: ignoring request"
Looking at:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/17/html/Installation_Guide/ap...
Finding it difficult without gpm (mouse console)
to help with copy and paste.
Any one handed ideas?

Legal fights with companies sitting on the kind of cash MS has is a

As one who studies laws, and the abuse of political power, I wouldn't worry about this; there is absolutely nothing MS can do - it's just a mere scare tactic.
Richard, please do not see this as a personal criticism, but if that was indeed the case, then would not the legal departments of the affected companies (especially Oracle, who most likely has a legal war machine easily on par with MS) have dismissed it rather than letting the company succumb to the demands?

Files of type .abw start weirdly in KDE
by Jonathan Ryshpan
When I click on the file foo.abw in the Desktop I would expect the
abiword application to start with foo.abw open. But actually firefox
opens with two tabs and two dialog boxes, both of which state:
You have chosen to open
foo.abw
which is an AbiWord document (10.0 KB)
from /home/jonrysh/desktop
What should Firefox do with this file?
O Open with AbiWord (default)
O ...
The preferences in System Settings->File Associations all look OK.
Clicking on any other file in the Desktop works OK. What's going on?
System is Fedora17 with KDE 4.8.4.
Thanks - jon
