GCC_3.3.1
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I have an application (gopenmol) which requires GCC_3.3.1, if I am
correct:
gopenmol: /usr/src/misc/gopenmol/gOpenMol-3.00/lib/libgcc_s.so.1:
version `GCC_3.3.1' not found (required by /usr/lib/libX11.so.6)
I expected to find in libgcc_s.so.1 (gcc), but it seems that I am
wrong.
yum provides *GCC_3.3.1*
says libgcc-4.6.3-2.fc16.i686
libgcc-4.6.3-2.fc16.i686 is installed.
Is it a configuration issue?
Thank

Fedora 17 boot problem -
by Bob Goodwin
I've just installed F-17/64/XFCE on what was an F-16/64 computer.
Initially everything worked as expected, it updated without a hitch.
I was making my usual configuration changes, rebooted and now it
stops just before the login screen. blank with just "Can not open
font file True"
At this point I could reinstall but would lose an hours work and the
bandwidth required for the update.
In rescue or whatever it's called I can see that the last change I
made has no typos, [10-evdev.conf to fix the copy paste problem].
Any idea what I can do next?
Bob

Getting fairly frequent (couple of times a day) lock ups with the latest

I filed a bug <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845631>: there
seems to be a problem with certain ATI graphics chips, possibly related?

force yum to download
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
When using the option --downloadonly, nothing will be installed.
How can I force yum to download the package even if it does not
match the distribution?
IN my opinion, yum should only refuse to install a package, but not to
download it.
Thank.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

iptables and dhcp configuration
by Jatin K
Dear all,
is there any way or method available to configure iptables to allow only
dhcp server assigned ip , means if user manually sets his/her systems ip
address then Linux gateway(FC16) should reject it .
user must use the ip address which is assigned by dhcp, ( dhcp server is
running on the same machine where iptables are installed, and machine is
acting as a gateway )
Warm Regards

Fedora 17 - Only one kernel
by Mateusz Marzantowicz
How can I reduce the number of installed kernels to only one on my
Fedora 17 systems? I'm asking about automated approach without the need
of manual package removal.
I haven't compiled new kernels myself for a very long time so I don't
think I'll need more then one kernel installed.
Now, I'm using package-cleanup --oldkernel but it's still cleaning up
the mess that I want to avoid.

udisks2: "Error updating SMART data"
by Corinna Vinschen
Hi,
since upgrading to Fedora 17 I see messages like this in the log:
udisksd[22965]: Error performing housekeeping for drive
/org/freedesktop/UDisks2/drives/WDC_WD1500ADFD_00NLR5_WD_WMAP42259780:
Error updating SMART data: sk_disk_smart_status:
Input/output error (udisks-error-quark, 0)
This message is generated for all directly attached WD drives in the
system. Can anybody tell me what effect this log message might have?
The drives work as expected, afaics. How do I to get rid of these log
messages?
Thanks in advance,
Corinna

yum check-update: meaning of exclamation marks
by Markus Schönhaber
Hi,
today I noticed this:
| # yum check-update

| adobe-linux-x86_64 | 951 B
00:00
| google-chrome | 951 B
00:00 !!!
[...]
What is the meaning of the exclamation marks on the line starting with
"google-chrome"?

F-17 SSH -
by Bob Goodwin
Replaced F-16/64 with F-17/64 on "box7" and see a problem I seem to
have every time I do this.
Presently box7 will ssh into box9 but box9 can not get into box7,
[root@box9 .ssh]# ssh bobg(a)192.168.1.7
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.7 port 22: No route to host
root or user,
[bobg@box9 ~]$ ssh bobg(a)192.168.1.7
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.7 port 22: No route to host
sshd is enabled and running on both, I've tried rm'ing "known_hosts"
and letting it regenerate, all to no avail.
I've seen this with several generations of Fedora [and different
equipment] and it's always the same, a few days or weeks later it
magically begins to work! All my computers in this room connect to a
gigabit switch, [even the switch has been replaced], and our
wireless LAN.
At times this is a serious inconvenience leading to typing errors, etc.
Any ideas what I have missed?
Bob
