How to install F-17 -
by Bob Goodwin
I've made two live xfce spin usb sticks, neither works. So I
installed S-L 6.2 from a USB stick that does work. Now my problem is
to install Fedora 17 instead.
I would like to install directly from the internet but my efforts at
googling that have been unproductive. The computer has no CD/DVD
drive so that method is out. It appears to be USB or nothing and I
haven't been able to make that work.
Any suggestions appreciated.

F17 upgrade dirty disc dialog
by Mark Haney
I've hit a snag on upgrading my netbook to F17. Every time I go into
the upgrade section I get a dialog saying my root volume is dirty and to
reboot into linux, have it clean the FS and restart the upgrade.
Unfortunately, no matter how many times I've rebooted I keep getting the
dialog. I'm not really sure where to go from here except to manually
check the FS, but I can't fix any root volume errors since I have no way
of unmounting the FS on this machine.
Ideas?

Can I remove sendmail?
by sergiocmailbox-fedorausers@yahoo.com.br
Hi, we have the sendmail.service enabled by default even in the minimal installation.
I only use Thunderbird as my email client.
May I uninstall sendmail? Is it needed for something I'm not aware of?
Regards.

Oh yes, that's what I had in the back of my mind when I asked the question.
So back to enable it again.
"Just for the record, I used to do this after every Fedora installation:
yum install postfixyum remove sendmail
chkconfig postfix onservice postfix start
(well, I still do this -- just did for F17 -- but now 'chkconfig' and 'service' should be replaced by their systemd counterparts)
Works like a charm, as jdow posted, postfix is configured to replace sendmail completely.
Regards,
Andre"
Hi André.
But what difference would it make to replace sendmail for postfix?
Is sendmail some security breach and postfix isn't, or something like that?

USB boot problem -
by Bob Goodwin
I have a new Gigabyte GA-E350N Motherboard set up that I want to
install F17 to from a USB flash drive but it refuses to recognize
it. I have made what I think are the required changes to boot order
but it never seems to "see" the flash drive, always wants to boot
from an old fedora drive and just shows grub> with a blinking
cursor. I don't know what version is on there.
The flash drive works in another F16 computer so it appears to be
good. I want to just boot and install from the USB spin!
Does anyone have experience with this board?

FC17 does not include SCTP kernel module
by Peter Butler
FC17 does not include the SCTP kernel module, as it had before (i.e. in
FC16 etc.)
I can't find the FC17 kernel-modules-extra RPM for it, nor even the FC17
kernel source RPM to compile it myself!
Help!
