Top Gnome panel problems.
by Aaron Konstam
After I restored the Gnome top panel using Main Menu application I am
left with some problems.
1. I can't restore the default volume control icon that appears on
installation.
2. I can't restore the networkmanager applet (containing vertical bars
when using wireless) that is there on installation of the F14 version.
Wireless still works but how can I restore these icons?

RE: UPnP vs. Fedora 14 firewall

My memory is a bit sketchy but along with IGD I had to add a few
firewall rules and a route to allow multicast upnp. This was
for a fedora box that I was using as a firewall/gateway system.
Some igd docs.
http://linux-igd.sourceforge.net/documentation.php
Below is a script I used for the firewall rules.
[agagne@linux0 tmp]$ cat bin/add-upnpd.sh
#iptables -N UPNP
#iptables -I FORWARD 2 -j UPNP
#iptables -A INPUT -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 2869 -j ACCEPT
#iptables -A INPUT -i eth1 -p udp --dport 1900 -j ACCEPT
# Good firewalls drop everything that has not been explicitly allowed,
# so first create rules to allow other computers to connect to the upnp
daemon.
iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i eth1 -d 239.0.0.0/8 -j ACCEPT
iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 49152 -j ACCEPT
iptables -t filter -A INPUT -i eth1 -p udp --dport 1900 -j ACCEPT
# Create chains for the rules to be created by the upnp daemon.
iptables -t filter -N UPNP_FORWARD
iptables -t filter -I FORWARD 2 -j UPNP_FORWARD
iptables -t nat -N UPNP_PREROUTING
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -j UPNP_PREROUTING
Use at your on risk as I am not a firewall expert.
I got this working after much googleing on how to set-up igd so
my son could play games from another system runnning win7.

Where did gdm-{restart,stop} go?
by Richard Shaw
Ok, on my MythTV box I would occasionally get freezes where
Ctl-Alt-Backspace would not work, or I'd get a call from the wife and
need to restart X remotely from work.
On Fedora 10 I found a handy command, gdm-restart which worked quite
nicely. After upgrading to F12 it was gone, then I found gdm-stop
which seemed to do the same thing. Now that I'm on F14, neither
command is available and I haven't found a suitable replacement.
Of course init 3 && init 5 will get the job done but it causes
unnecessary stop and starting of services.
Thanks,
Richard

Gnome Shell not working after PreUpgrade
by Stewart Williams
Hi All,
I have just done my first PreUpgrade from F12 to F14. The upgrade was
successful apart from gnome-shell no longer works, which I was happily
using on F12.
I get this error:
(mutter:2804): mutter-WARNING **: Could not load library
[/usr/lib64/mutter/plugins/libgnome-shell.so
(/usr/lib64/libgtk-x11-3.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
g_application_add_action)]
$ rpm -qa kernel mutter compiz kmod-nvidia gnome-shell
gnome-shell-2.31.5-7.fc14.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-260.19.36-1.fc14.3.x86_64
mutter-2.31.5-3.fc14.x86_64
compiz-0.8.6-6.fc14.x86_64
kernel-2.6.35.12-90.fc14.x86_64
Compiz and mutter (on it's own) work fine and the binary nvidia driver
is loading OK.
Does anyone have any idea's or should I file in Bugzilla?

Selinux
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I get the following error message:
Can't load '/home/pdupre/Spectroscopy/test/blib/arch/auto/ttt/ttt.so' for
module ttt: /home/pdupre/Spectroscopy/test/blib/arch/auto/ttt/ttt.so:
cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied at
/usr/lib/perl5/DynaLoader.pm line 200.
If I remove the SELinux enforcing mode to permissive, then it works fine.
The file ttt.so is generate by myself in user mode and I cannot access it.
This strange !!
how can I get rid of this problem ?
Thank.

linker
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I wish to link several .o files to make only one .o file not executable
(it will relinked later). I would like to first make a prelinked file easier to then link
them to the excutable file (ie. with a main).
Thank for your help.

serial port paths for Vbox/XP for GPSs
by Beartooth
I'm in process of installing XP under VirtualBox on Fedora 14
Linux, after which I'll install MapSource, TopoUS2008, and others under
XP, hoping to be able to get my Etrexes and Rinos to talk to the
software. I do have a physical serial port on the machine; but I don't
see what path to set Com1 and Com2 to. Anyone know?

So where are my workspaces??
by Beartooth
Having had trouble with F15 media, I told preupgrade on an
expendable (heavily backed up) pc to go to F15 beta. It did, eventually,
after taking an amazingly long time -- and looks worse, so far, than I
had feared.
I logged in, and it put me onto what has always been my workspace
#1. But there are no panels, let alone a workspace switcher; and right-
clicking does nothing anywhere.
I have it doing yum update at present, also going through an
amazing lot of stuff. Will that enable me to orient myself? Or is this
release a total loss already for all but Alpha Plus Technoids?
