You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

OT? copy live ubuntu iso image to usb for boot
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
OK, I guess this would be unacceptable to ask in an Ubuntu mailing list
and I was trying to get help with a Fedora iso but since F15 has been
pushed back to be nice to mirrors because another distribution is
releasing just before the original date, I thought I would try my luck.
I am a loyal Fedora user but I have to install a Ubuntu live from an
ISO. So, with Fedora, I know what to do. Download the live iso image
and copy to usb using the following command:
sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-LXDE.iso /dev/sdc
and everything goes through fine, with a bootable iso image created in
the process.
But when I try the following:
sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr xubuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64.iso /dev/sdc
I get:
Verifying image...
The media check is complete, the result is: NA.
No checksum information available, unable to verify media.
Are you SURE you want to continue?
Press Enter to continue or ctrl-c to abort

First data block=0
Maximum filesystem blocks=251658240

Writing inode tables: done
Creating journal (4096 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done
This filesystem will be automatically checked every 36 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.
xubuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64.iso uses initrd.img w/o install.img
Copying DVD image to USB stick
Updating boot config file
Installing boot loader
/media/usbdev.g7vFg6/syslinux is device /dev/sdc1
USB stick set up as live image!
Which is actually far less output and an useless (in terms of live or
install) iso on the usb. It is however recognized as a iso, but nothing
more useful than that.
Any suggestions on how to do this with Fedora? I prefer commandline
approaches.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

Anti-Evolution rant.
by Bill Case
Hi;
Just getting some stuff about the Evolution program off my chest. If I
can get some suggestions along the way that would be a bonus.
The only use I had for WindowsXP was using Outlook to print out my
calendar. My Windows harddisk died a month ago. It was due;it was old.
But now I have to completely rely on Evolution.
Evolution would do me just fine if I could get my calendar printed the
way I am used to and the way I want. I no longer have any PIM devices
and do I want them. I find devices just interfere with a face-to-face
conversation. I want a piece of paper on which I can write quick notes
to myself without losing eye contact. Old fashioned -- may be -- but it
is what works for me. Windows Outlook used to give me my piece of paper
tasks, appointments and all, that I could fold up and carry in my hip or
shirt pocket.
Three years ago I filled a Request for Enhancement through Gnome
Bugzilla.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470934
I seemed to have received some interest at the time so I filed a full
description with diagrams for that bug report. Nothing.
I have even offered to learn enough about Evolution programming to
create it myself. I asked for some advice on how I should get started.
(They seemed to be making programming changes at the time). I thought
needed some simple advice just to get started particularly for creating
print forms. Should it be a plugin? Can I do what I want as a Plugin?
Got nothing.
Now I am on a search for a replacement for Evolution that lets me have
some control over calendar print out forms. Can anybody help?

yum doesn't work as expected with "clean"
by Bill Davidsen
The "yum clean packages" command removes all cached rpms as desired, but leaves
all the drpm files. I wondered why my disk space was getting tight on a small
server, and that was the issue. Is that intended behavior?
I'll be happy to file a bug if not.

Cant get networking working in Fedora14
by Reg Clemens
I sent this several days ago, and it didnt make it to the list, Im trying
again.
--------------------
I am just now bringing up Fedora14 (Ive been running Fedora11).
Something has changed, since the way I have always done things to
bring up networking just doen't work.
I can setup
/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
either by hand or using the system-config-network script, and everything
LOOKS ok, but I can not ping this machine from the outside, nor can I ping
from it to another machine on the same network.
The hardware is fine, since I have Knoppix running on the machine at the
moment (to verify that the machine and its cables were ok) and its
networking came up just fine.
So, what's changed between Fedora11 and Fedora14, other than setting
up the above files (or using system-config-network) what do I need to do???
Thanks in advance.

F14 - 4 min delay on shutdown
by Genes MailLists
As of a few weeks back I started getting very slow shutdowns ...
Anyone else seeing this or got some color on the problem ?
here's what seems to be happening:
shutdown ..
network goes offline
ntpd asks for an update (looks like it traps the kill -15 ..
and stays up trying to clean up )
named times out .. and gets error .. wont shutdown cleanly
(it has received a kill -15 which it has trapped)
named waits trying to clean up - cannot clean up coz network is down.
ntpd finally exits (and stops nagging named)
delay of shutdown now about 4 mins .. .
eventually named gets killed harder harder (and finally exits)

Bug 692432 - Plotter
HP Deskjet T770 is not printing
I filed a bug as I think that it should work
out of the box, as it is included in hplip, as also per HP note on latest
hplip.
It is not urgent as plotter is a network plotter in an office where I am
working as consultant (but not an IT consultant)
