encription
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I created a directory under my own directory:
mkdir pdupre-enc
and a mounting point
then:
encfs --reverse /home/pdupre/pdupre-enc /tmp/encrypt
mount shows me that it mounted:
encfs on /home/pdupre/encrypt type fuse.encfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,default_permissions,user=pdupre)
But when I want to create a directory under encrypt I got:
mkdir: cannot create directory `ttt': Input/output error
Why I cannot edit the directory, I have no write right !
Even changing to have w mode !
drwxr-xr-x. 2 pdupre Users 2048 Dec 1 15:22 ../encrypt/
Even root cannot access (I guess that it is normal).
What am I doing wrong ?
I am using fedora 13
thank.

php-pear dependencies install httpd
by Martín Marqués
I have my laptop with php-cli and php-pear installed, and I was to do
an upgrade and found that yum wanted to install httpd package to my
surprise.
Looking in detail, I found that php-pear needed php-devel, which needs
php, which needs httpd.
--> Ejecutando prueba de transacción
---> Paquete php-pear.noarch 1:1.9.1-5.fc13 definido para ser actualizado
--> Procesando dependencias: php-devel para el paquete:

--> Ejecutando prueba de transacción

--> Procesando dependencias: php = 5.3.3-1.fc13 para el paquete:

---> Paquete httpd-tools.x86_64 0:2.2.17-1.fc13.1 definido para ser instalado
Any ideas why these dependencies appeared? Basically, whi does
php-pear need php-devel.

FC14 good/bad news
by Bill Davidsen
I installed FC14 in a VM, on a 7.7GB disk image. After that was installed and
tested to some extent, I copied the image to an 8GB SD memory and booted off it.
Worked with the micro-SD in an adaptor to full size SD, and in a micro-SD to USB
nubbin. When I installed I made the filesystems ext2 to avoid beating the
storage, other than that stock install.
Now I can select enhanced effects for video, and they work fine (for values of
fine considering I wanted to see if they work, not that I want them on).
However, the display is still dog slow, glxgears runs at 60fps, video is jerky,
etc. So the "better" video now doesn't crash, does provide effects I don't need,
and is still too slow to be useful, even on a non-game machine. So much for not
using vendor drivers.
System is i7-950, 12GB RAM, Radeon HD 4350 video, used as a VM host most of the
time. Not a killer machine, not a dog.
I will be doing some testing to see if the newer KVM is any better in a
measurable way, but when VNC to a machine with fast video is better than
console, there is room for improvement.

Wireless
by Antonio Olivares
Dear folks,
I am having a difficult time connecting at decent speeds to a wireless network
setup by my nephew with Fedora 14. I installed Fedora 14 on a quad core machine
that had Fedora 12 happily running. IT has a built in wireless device
integrated in it. The installation worked beautifully and connected the first
time around. The driver rtl8187 loaded fine and I browsed the web and applied
all the updates and got new kernel too. I was very happy. I turned off the
machine and yesterday and today tried to connect to internet with it and it not
longer works the way it did the first time :(, I cannot connect to any page like
I did before and networkmanger in KDE tells me that I am connected but cannot
browse. In windows, I can browse the web without troubles, here is output from

Wireless System Connection - How?
by agraham
Hi
I want my laptop to connect to my Wifi as a "System Connection" by
default (assuming now wired LAN is plugged in).
I'm using KDE (F14), in Edit Network Connections - KDE Control Module
there are two options:
1. Connect Automatically
2. System Connection
The second option is always greyed out - and I don't know why?
I would assume that if I login as root and setup this as a system
connection it should create the neccessary ifcfg-wlan0 file with boot=Yes.
Any suggestions or pointers to docs?
TIA.
Albert.

SELinux Guide for Fedora 14
by Jorge Fábregas
Hi,
I noticed there's no SELinux Guide for Fedora 14. Is it that there's nothing
new compared to the Fedora 13 one or is simply not ready yet?
Thanks!
