g++ question on F13
by Paul Allen Newell
To the Fedora community:
I have upgraded one of my machines to F13 in expectation of F12 hitting
end of life. For the most part, no problems, but I do see a question.
Before I send email to GNU gcc, I wanted to make sure I understood
Fedora's plan of action.
The install DVD and yum updates have g++ 4.4.4. GNU's home page is
listing the latest on that minor as 4.4.5. I don't see pdf docs for
4.4.4, only 4.4.5. I wanted to find out if the F13 line was going to
upgrade to 4.4.5 before I started asking GNU gcc folks about where the
archives of old pdf man pages were.
My feeling is that if I use 4.4.5 docs, I should be okay for running
4.4.4, but I couldn't see in the gcc update docs whether I was missing
something or not.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
ps: what g++ is F14 going to have?

creating cgroup hierarchy
by Simon Brandner
Hello,
i tried to create sub-directories in a cgroups mount.
I tried the following:
# mkdir test
# cd test
# echo 0 > cpuset.mems
# echo 0 > cpuset.cpus
# cat memory.use_hierarchy
1
# mkdir subtest
mkdir: cannot create directory `subtest': Invalid argument
So it did not work. Several tutorials mention a hierarchy or subgroups would be possible, but in none it was descibed how to manage this.
Could this feature be disabled in the kernel or somewhere else?
My active Kernel version is:
26.34.7-61.fc13.i686
Regards,
Simon

OT ? I'm about this close to buying an iPad...
by linux guy
Hi people.
I need to vent... I'm getting frustrated with Linux. Well, not Linux
per se, and not Fedora, but the whole experience part of things.
I desperately need to do something about the audio system in my car.
Its got a head unit that doesn't have an aux in, nor does it support
mp3s, etc. It needs to be replaced ASAP.
I also need navigation, desperately.
Its been that way for a while. I considered doing a car PC. I didn't
like all the engineering required to do that, so I nixed it. I
considered embedding a HP Tablet in the dash. I took a close look at
them and nixed it due to display issues, heat, etc.
So I've been waiting and waiting. I considered buying a dedicated head
unit with nav but the screens are too small and they seem to go out of
date faster than bread on the counter.
Along comes the iPad. And it seems to do everything I want. Plays
MP3s. Does nav. Bright screen. Affordable. And if you check youtube,
lots of people have embedded them in cars.
But being an OS guy, I want a machine running Linux, not iOS or whatever
its called. Where is it ? I keep reading stories about dozens of
tablet devices running Linux/Android/Meego on Slashdot, but where are
they ?
While I have your attention, I also own a Nokia N900 phone. Right now
its running Maemo, which works, but is hardly what one would call
elegant. Actually, there are some things that don't work, but that is
another story. Nokia is saying they will be shipping Meego in October.
I have my fingers crossed.
Another thing I am waiting on is KDE 4.6. I am pretty disappointed by
KDE 4.5 I know it was a bug fix release, but I expected more.
At this point I REALLY have to applaud Apple. They really seem to have
their act together.
The various vendors in the Linux camp really need to get their butts in
gear and start delivering. Hardware companies need to get their
tablets OUT into the market. Nokia et al need to get Meego OUT and get
some nice apps written for it. (Have you looked at the iPad and iPhone
app store lately ?) And the KDE camp needs to finish delivering on
their vision for what KDE 4 is supposed to be.
I wait, growing more impatient day by day.

Why is Fedora continuing to propagate FF 3.5 on F12?
by Paolo Galtieri
F12 updated FF to version 3.5.15, however, when you start up FF on F12
it tells you that FF 3.5 is out of date and you should instead download
version 3.6.
If FF 3.5 is out of date why continue to update it? Why not replace it
with version 3.6?

Multi-users access to audio (pulseaudio?)
by S P Arif Sahari Wibowo
Hi!
I would like to grant access to audio to certain users other
than the one currently login physically / on console. I tried to
add all those users to the group pulse-access, pulse, and audio,
but it does not work. I still get this error:
$ paplay /usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/sonar.ogg
Connection failure: Connection refused
pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused
Anybody know how to setup this?
Thanks!

Intermittent freezing
by Nigel Bishop
I am running Fedora 13 with Linux Kernel 2.6.33-3.85.fc13.x86_64 with Gnome
2.30.0 on HP laptop ProBook 4510S
At times, it almost freezes, with very slow response to the keyboard. System
monitor shows that something is hogging the CPU. Sometimes, after a few
minutes, it recovers, other times I have to re-boot.
Any ideas?

Fedora 13 install
by Rod McCown
Trying to install Fedora 13. Install freezes while partitioning disk and
creating file systems. Using ATA drives, AMD Duron 1GHz proc, with 1GB RAM.
Tried letting it put it's own layout on there. Tried using just 4 basic
partitions and using ext2. System freezes. Any ideas why?

Which package you would like every new Fedora user to see?
by Valent Turkovic
Which piece of software you believe that every new Fedora user should
be aware of that isn’t installed by default on Fedora Live CD?
Why do you think that this package should be installed by default?
Make your claim strong enough and I’ll include it by default in new
Fusion Linux 14 Fedora Remix.

display
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
On the same machine I have a fedora 11 and a fedora 13 installed.
On the fedora 13 I can get the resolution of 1280x1024 but not
on the fedora 13. I can only get 1024x786.
The same graphics dirver are installed. The same monitor type (LCD Panel
1280x1024). Intel integrated chipset (82Q963/Q965)
I even try to copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf from one system to the other one
but without any success.
It seems that the resolution is set at the startx.
Or by grub ?
In both cases I do not have the rhgb option.
Thank.
