Disk usage error
by William John Murray
Hello all,
Can anyone help me with a disk usage problem? I have a disk
partition of 65GB in LVM; df says:
/dev/dm-0 65570580 60494828 1744888 98% /
However, if I use either du or Baobab they reckon the directories in it
add up to 30Gb or so. As it is my root directory, and there are various
others it is a little difficult to get the total, so I booted under
liveUSB and saw exactly the same - 30Gb used, but 98% full.
So something is stealing half my disk. If I try to write more it is
out of space.
Any ideas how I get my space back? fsck reports the disk is clean.
Thanks,
Bill

random lockups when using Firefox
by Julian C. Dunn
Hi,
I have a F12 box that periodically locks up solid when visiting certain
Flash-based sites in Firefox. There are usually no odd messages found in
/var/log/messages to indicate what went wrong, except a couple of days
ago, after a crash, I found this:
Dec 29 13:01:50 jupiter kernel: [drm:radeon_fence_wait] *ERROR*

My video card is a:

[Radeon X300 (PCIE)]
Could there be some bug with the radeon driver that is causing this?

RaLink rt3090 support
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
I installed F12 on a Eee PC 1001HA. Everything workes fine except the
wireless chipset, RaLink RT3090
Google turned up various leads, such as this thread:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=236729
One poster writes:
"Kernel-2.6.32-0.63.rc8.git2.fc13 includes a module for the rt3090 chip in
the staging directory."
Another writes:
"Fedora's kernel package contains some of the staging modules. I don't know
what criteria they have for choosing what staging modules get into the
Fedora package. Most likely the rt3090 got in the 2.6.32-0.63.rc8.git2.fc13
package by accident. You can file a bug in bugzilla.redhat.com and ask them
to reinclude it.
Meanwhile rpmfusion offers a kmod-staging package that you can try, which
covers (most of) those staging modules that don't come with Fedora's
kernel."
Someone filed a bug against this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=548805
One of the followups indicates:
Staging: remove no longer needed rt3090 driver
rt2860 handles now all rt2860/rt3090 chipsets.
Now I am thoroughly confused. :)
>From Fusion, I installed kmod-staging:
kmod-staging-2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686-2.6.31.5-2.fc12.10.i686
staging-kmod-addons-2.6.31.5-2.fc12.noarch
kmod-staging-2.6.31.5-2.fc12.10.i686
as well as the rt2860 driver:
kmod-rt2860-2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.i686-2.1.2.0-3.fc12.12.i686
rt2860-2.1.2.0-2.fc12.noarch
However, when I rebooted the Eee, the wireless card still isn't recognized.
What are my options at this point?
Wait for 2.6.32 kernel? Will it make it into F12 or not until F13?
Try to install via kmod-staging? Not sure how, can't find any man page or
docs anyway.
Compile the driver myself? Version dd 27 january, source:
http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2
Install rawhide? Not crazy about that idea.
Thanks.

Problems with network speed setup in F12
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
in f11 I had a line into /etc/rc.d/rc.local to force speed/duplex/autoneg:
/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off >> /tmp/ethtool.log 2>&1
In F12 I see that this setting is not maintained.
After I log in in Gnome I see that:
[root@tekkaman ~]# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Half
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
The log file has timestamp of my boot time, so that I know it was
actually executed.
If I run it manually it succeeds and I get now:
Advertised link modes: Not reported
Advertised auto-negotiation: No
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: off
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
but after some minutes I get again:
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Half
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
So there is something external that manage this kind of changes.
Some questions:
- network guys say me that switch port is fixed at 100/full (it is a
gigabit ethernet) so, if this is true, even in autoneg there is an
error in getting settings
- what is the component that changes the settings? I walked through NM
applet to edit connections but I don't see any parameter....

Any suggestions???

radeon driver heading in wrong direction :-(.
by Tom Horsley
My poor system at work generated this bug shortly after
I installed f12 on it:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=541387
I had hoped that over time, the drivers would improve,
but since the updates of about a week ago, the crashes
have been much more dramatic and frequent, so much
so that I've had to go back to my fedora 11 partition
because I couldn't get any work done due to the
frequency of crashes on fedora 12.
Is there a list anywhere of the video cards that
are actually used by X developers on the machines they
need to be up all the time? Switching to a card from that
list seems like it would be a good idea :-).
Is there any remote chance that AMD/ATI are ever going
to produce a catalyst driver that can be built on the
fedora 12 kernel? It might work better...

FC11 Install Requires Network Connectivity?
by Tod Thomas
I'm in the middle of rebuilding two new machines, neither of them are
attached to the network. After following the prompts (3-4 screens) I
get "Some of your software repositories require networking but there was
an error enabling the network on your system." and no other option but
to exit the installation.
AM I reading this right? I can't do a standalone install anymore w/o
network connectivity? I'm sure I didn't download the Live CD but just
to make sure I'm downloading the DVD ISO again and reburning. Is there
a way to get around this? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks - Tod

Blacklisting Nouveau
by Jim
FC12-x86_64/KDE
How do you Blacklist nouveau ?
I have installed kmod-nvidia because nouveau is causing the mouse to
disappear
after bringing computer out of a power down after about a half an hour.
It is nouveau that is causing mouse to disappear, i have installed
nvidia before and it corrected the disappearing mouse problem.
But kmod-nvidia is trying to start at boot up but nouveau keeps loading
module.
I have in /etc/modprobe.d a "blacklist nouveau" but it's not preventing
the nouveau module from loading.
What else can I do to preventing it from loading?
