Firefox on F9 with latest 64bit flash
by Paolo Galtieri
I'm having a problem with firefox and the latest 64 bit flashplayer on
F9. Every time I go to youtube.com firefox crashes with the following:
$ firefox
/usr/lib64/firefox-3.0.11/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 24767 Segmentation
fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
has anyone else seen this?
I moved my ~/.mozilla directory out of the way and restarted firefox.
This resulted in a new ~/.mozilla and everything works fine at this
point. I can go to youtube.com and firefox doesn't crash. I can't play
any videos since they require the flash plugin. I create
.mozilla/plugins and copy libflashplayer.so into that directory and
restart firefox. As soon as I go to youtube.com firefox crashes.
$ md5sum .mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
9903881108ff7cd954a3adf0d00185d3 .mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
$ file ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
/home/pgaltieri/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so: ELF 64-bit LSB
shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), stripped
I have the same version of libflashplayer.so running on F11 and firefox
does not crash there, however, I'm running the 3.5.1 version of firefox
on F11.
I tried an older version of libflashplayer.so and the same thing happened.
Any thoughts as to what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Unable to start isomaster in Fedora 11
by Steven F. LeBrun
While it has been a month or two since I installed Fedora 11, this is
the first time since then that I have tried to run isomaster. I do not
know if this problem started when I upgraded (with a clean install) of
Fedora 11 or if it started later with an update via yum/yumex.
The program locks up or freezes during startup. The window for
isomaster appears but never populates itself with the program. I have
not found any error messages. If I click on the "close app" button in
the upper right-hand corner, an error dialog box pops up after about a
minute stating that the program is unresponsive and I am able to force
kill the program from there.
Isomaster version 1.3.4-3.fc11 is installed on my system. I tried
uninstalling it using yum and then installing it again without any
change in the start up problem. Running the program from a command line
does not yield any error messages.
Is anyone else having this problem and does anyone have any suggestions?

Automatically grant user permission to use USB scanner in F11 x86_64
by stan
I managed to get a usb scanner working for root, but I don't want to
always have to go into /dev/bus/usb/002/ and change the permissions so a
regular user can use it. Is there an elegant way to allow a regular
user to run xsane for a USB scanner? That works even when it is not
present at boot but is hot plugged later?
I didn't find anything in a web search, though there were hints that
this could be done through udev rules in /etc/udev/rules.d somehow.
There doesn't appear to be a scanner group or a usb group to add my user
to, and I think that creating an fstab entry with user permissions like
cd and dvd for usb is obsolete.
So, what is the solution?

no send/receive in evolution
by Amadeus W.M.
My send/receive button in evolution is grayed out so unusable. Is there
any option to re-enable it? Anybody else seeing this?
Also, sometimes when sending messages they just get stuck in the Outbox.
I'd have to click on send/receive, but I can't.

With Skype, no sound
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
I have just installed Skype on F11 x86_64, but there is no sound. The
sound problem is Skype specific, as I can listen to online radios, for
instance.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

udev rules -- file names -- just wondering??
by Bill Case
Hi;
I am looking at /etc/udev/rules.d, particularly 90-alsa.rules and
noticed that all the udev rules files are preceded by a number in their
name. Is that number significant? Or is it used just to avoid
duplicate names?
I was looking to see if I could chase down why undev produces a wierd
beep when it initiates on boot.
