Linux software for Motorola Razor phone?

This may have been answered before, but scanning the archives, I haven't found it (sorry...). My wife recently surprised me with a new gsm phone, a Motorola Razor. I already had the USB cable which works with it (use it with my camcorder), but a web search for Linux software to use the phone with one of my Linux boxen didn't turn up anything. Basically I want to synchronize the calendar and phonebooks, and be able to back up files from the phone to the computer (and restore). I'm running both FC4 and FC5 here so anything which would work with either of those would be great - and much apprecited. Network problems on new FC4 box - please help.

I had to replace a disk (the one with all of the home directories on it) on an FC3 box, and so I bought a new drive (particulars unimportant). To make a long story short, I decided to put FC4 on this box, and so I installed the new drive and put the root filesystem on it. I still have the old FC3 root drive and can boot to either for comparison... Under FC3, I have no network problems that I can detect; however, under FC4 there are two distinct (related? no idea) problems which have eluded me. I have tried looking up both of these in the archives, but have had no luck (some similar issues, but nothing exactly like either of these unless I missed them). Problem 1: network card goes to sleep. This machine has 2 network cards, both on-board. The 1GB card L(Intel 82540EM) goes to the smartswitch to tolk to the local network, and does not show any problems. The other card (nVidia nForce2) is a 100MB card and talks to the DSL modem. Periodically I cannot connect to the internet at all - or even ping the DSL modem. This happens irregularly but about 5-10 times/day. If I reboot back to FC3, the problem does not occur. Network configurations between the two (FC3/FC4) are as identical as I can make them. The first few times the problem occurs, sometimes retarting networking works, but eventually a full sys reboot is the only thing which works. Problem 2: slow local network. Under FC3 throughput on the LOCAL network (1GB lan) is very fast. Under FC4, the best I have seen is ONE transfer of about 1.2 MB/s - and throughput drops to as low as 50-75KB/s at times. Again, this does not occur under FC3 but does under FC4. Again the same setup as nearly as I can make it. No workaround found so far. Uninstall

Is there a way to just flat uninstall FC 8. I need to make a workstation match a customer configuration. They use Ubuntu, which has the worst Installation program I have ever seen. Thus I need to uninstall FC 8 to create open space. Partion Magic from the XP partition craps the basket and claims it cannot even find the drive letter. I really would hate to buy a new machine just to match the customer configuration. Any help is appreciated.

Trying to install NX

guys, help me. I made the link, checked SELinux like i did. I've got the experience ya know? I've done all this on all F* up to F7 I also learned a new command "alternatives" nothing helped. "applet not initialized" testing again "google java tester"....just a blank pink box info on the new brave, free, iced cool java is scant. i386 32 bit F8 help the poor soul....ktnx

Turbo Memory

I was spec'ing a new laptop tonight, and noticed it had 1 GB of 'Turbo Memory' -- this is a new Intel specification that uses flash memory to cache frequently used items and is only available in Windows-land with Vista. It is not CPU cache nor RAM. Does anyone know of any work being done to access this new technology in Linux? -- Claude Jones Brunswick, MD, USA

Gallery2 installation, so where is it?

I just did:- yum install gallery2 It installed with no errors. The trouble is I now have no clue as to what to do next. What do I have to do next, I can't see any *obvious* pages to browse to get it going. Yes, I do have apache installed and running, and PHP, and mySql. -- Chris Green

Can't read/mount SD flash memory card in builtin reader.

I am having trouble getting Fedora 9 (x86_64 live cd) to read my SD card using a built-in Ricoh MMC reader on an HP 8510 laptop (Core 2 Duo). I get mmcblk0 and mmcblk0p1 in /dev but any attempt to read the card fails. I see an icon in Nautilus but after opening it and a brief pause I get an error "Can't read superblock". Also, any attempt to inspect the device in parted or fdisk also fail. They both complain about lables but I'm not sure if they are talking about filesystem labels or volume lables. I can't see why the latter would cause an issue. I tried the mklabel command in parted setting it to msdos but it couldn't complete... I'm in Windows XP right now and it's reading it fine. Along those lines, is it possible to get the UUID of a disk from windows? Richard

Hi, I've just installed Fedora 9 on my laptop, and unfortunately a few things are getting worse in Fedora. Network management has always been awkward on Fedora and with Fedora 9 it's getting much worse. 1. I have always edited the config files directly to get things working. And still have to ( it's just a straight forward wireless connection ). 2. NetworkManager is now the default on install, BUT... 2.1 NetworkManager does not give you a wireless connection when no user is logged in. 2.1.1 How am I going to run any network service, NTP, NFS, httpd, etc..... without a network? 2.1.2 How am I going to remotely administer my machines? 2.2 NetworkManager does not give you the ability to configure system wide networking services or policy. 2.3 NetworkManager does not have any decent documentation. 3. Try using WPA and DHCP at the same time. It's never worked in this or any previous Fedora. Yes, NM will do it, but that's no good because of the previously stated problems. the network service won't do it because it tries to run DHCP immediately after bringing up the interfaces...It SHOULD wait until wpa_supplicant has run and the interface is available for traffic before kicking off DHCP... GDM was functional, well behaved and stable in Fedora 8. I used it to log into other F8 machines locked away in difficult to get at racks. Fedora 9 has effectively removed that ability by shipping a GDM with gdmsetup. How many users depend on that functionality? I did, and won't be able to upgrade to F9 for any other machines. A suggestion... Use the fedora website/wiki to collect information about use cases. Find out what people depend on. Use that to provide a guarantee that functionality and usefulness won't go backwards. If it was ever setup, I'd tell you everything I do with my machines. Russell
