Can't update rpm
by Jesus Jr M Salvo
F7 x86_64. I can't update rpm with the latest updates. They all seem
to depend on rpm = 4.4.2-46.fc7.

Fedora 7 - features and obvious usability enhancements
by Valent Turkovic
Hello,
first I would like to ask where is the proper place to suggest new
features and obvious usability enhancements for fedora.
Is there a mailing list or some group of people or someone specific I
have to target in order for some really much needed features to be
included in fedora releases?
First one I see as a really great usability add on to fedora is
Deskbar gnome plugin. It is in the repositories, but it is not
installed by default and it is not enabled by default. I think that
this is a great shame. All new users (and also old ones) would benefit
a lot from just including this great widget in default desktop setup
for Fedora 7 .
Ok, I won't go too much long here if this isn't proper way of getting
attention to the right people. I don't mean that you aren't proper or
not important but I just don't know if this mailing list is the right
way for discussing usability and features. Please tell me if it is and
then I'll continue if not point me in the right direction.
Thank you all for your time and attention.
Valent from Croatia.

Yes. yumdownloader --source "xx.src.rpm" --destdir "your_dir"

Several on the net. But you only need:
rpmbuild -ba --clean --rmsource "spec_name"
if you wish building as root (not recommendable, but harmless in this case).

F7 installer running very, very slowly
by Langdon Stevenson
Hi
I am running an F7 install on a Dell PowerEdge 2300 (another one -
previous one that caused me problems is running fine).
Machine boots up fine, but when the F7 Rescue CD boots up everything
goes into slow motion. This happens right from the word go. For
instance the initial graphical screen to select the type of install
takes about 20 seconds to paint, keyboard response is slow as well.
This is the same throughout the install, both graphical and
non-graphical. I expect that the installer would complete in due
course, but haven't had the patience to see it any further through than
selecting hard drives.
I have had a look at "top" through a console during the install and it
reports that there is plenty of RAM available, and no processes hogging
the dual CPUs.
I can't see any bios settings that might effect the installer.
I have removed all of the RAM and tried RAM from an identical machine
that doesn't have this problem, but no luck. It still does the same
I have removed all of the PCI devices (save for the SCSI controller) and
no improvement.
Is this symptom familiar to anyone? Can anyone suggest how I might work
out what is going on?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

netdump support
by Adhiraj Joshi
Hi All,
I tried to setup netdump on my FC6 mahcine but I could not find netdump
module (netdump.ko) in the build. I assume netdump comes by default with
rhel/fedora kernels. Where do I get the rpms/srpms//patches to build netdump
from on FC6. Or which kernels support netdump?
Thanks in advance,
Adhiraj Joshi.

F7 Rescue does have dd
by Karl Larsen
I was so sure it didn't I rebooted into the F7 Rescue CD and did not
mount my computer and sure enough it does have dd somewhere. I went
looking and found the joe editor but missed seeing the dd anywhere but
it sure does come up :-)
Next time I do a dd transfer I will use the Rescue CD. It is real
nice. I might test it soon to see how fast it is.

KDE ssh-agent
by Michael D. Berger
On my FC7, it appears that KDE creates an ssh-agent
when it starts. Is this a surprise? What is it for?
My FC4 did not do that.
Thanks,
Mike.

IMAPS and/or openssl problem
by Timothy Murphy
I'm trying to access my IMAPS (dovecot) server on my laptop
while on holiday.
But when I run kmail I get the message
"Could not connect to host <myserver>".
Both server and laptop are running Fedora 7 + KDE.
I suspect the problem lies in my openssl setup,
as when I run
openssl s_client -ssl2 -crlf -host <myserver> -port 993
I get no response - the program just waits until I press ctrl-C.
As is probably obvious, I am fairly ignorant about all this.
I can access my server with ssh, and so can change anything there,
except that I am unable to access the ADSL modem,
where I have opened peepholes for ssh, http and imaps (port 993).
(I cannot access the modem because when I run firefox on the server
it does not open a window on my laptop -
perhaps an X-permissions issue?)
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.
