kernels
by Karl Larsen
There appears to be a lot of talk about kernel bugs. I heard that
the stock F7 kernel has bugs and it is known as 2.6.21-1,3194 and in the
updates it was changed to
2.6.21-1,3228. This makes me think both of these are the same identical
kernel with some changes in the huge number of compiled in modules. This
update is a change in the modules that are compiled in. With a lot of
work you could compare the modules and discover what happened.
For sure Red Hat could have done the update package. And they could
have decided which modules to remove/add. Where can you read about all this?

FC7 & XEN
by Luc MAIGNAN
Hi,
I still don't succeed to install a guest FC7 OS on a FC7 XEN. The
install in console mode (without graphics) hangs up, whereas all was ok
in FC6.
ANy help would be appreciated

FC6 i386 to FC7 x86_64
by Javier Perez
Hi
How do I go from a FC6 i386 system to a FC7 x86_64 system without data loss?
I had to change the motherboard of my MythTV system. Given the fact that
x86_4 support
was poor at the time I built it, I went i386 on the install. Now it looks
like x86_64 is better
supported and I want to move to a x86_64-only system.
I was able to upgrade from FC6 to FC7 in another system using yum only (I
think my
DVDwriter is toast, The FC7DVD came out a coaster). Therefore I'd rather use
the
yum/rpm way to upgrade. Nevertheless when I downloaded the x86_64 kernel,
rpm
refused to install/upgrade my current kernel to that version.
Is there a minimum set of programs that I have to update together to make
the switch to
x86_64?
Thanks!

Upgrading from 6 to 7
by George Hare
Hi all,
I just read where someone upgraded from Fedora6 to Fedora7. Is this still a
big risk with the
dependency issues. I have most things fairly stable and the way I like them.
>From alot of
opinions that I have read over the past couple of weeks here, it sounds like
I might as well just
stay with 6. I'm starting to get figure-it-out-burn-out. Any Thoughts?
Thanks,

I shouldn't have to "enable" either of them, it should use what configure
finds. That's broken.
I'll just have to leave the gimp where its at by locking it I guess. Maybe
that way I can go back to doing the "update all" stuff. Now if those deps
were removed as they should be, then I, nor anyone else would be having a
problem with running a more "bleeding edge" gutenprint, which is to me not
the least bit bleeding edge 4 months after its build and install. To me, the
newer gutenprint "Just Works(TM)", and I'm not about to replace perfectly
good code with broken code that's nearly 3 years out of maintainance just
because somebody in packaging this stuff, can't tell the difference between
an option and a dependency. The kindest word I can use is dumb.

Gnome Folder preferences?
by Brian
A basic question.
Is there anyway to configure Gnome to cease opening new windows when
traversing the file system via the GUI? I've looked through various
options available without finding anything.
Thanks

linux IP watcher
by L
Hi
my ISP provides a non-statis IP. I am looking for a linux tool to watch ip
address change. that can monitor my public and local IP address. If IP
address changes it will send an email, to the address specified, with the
new IP address. This email also includes the computer name and time the
change occurred. This is useful for computers that have dynamically assigned
IP addresses, but need to be accessed remotely.
Hope some one can help

VLC on F7?
by Karl Larsen
I wanted to get VLC on this new F7 I have updated and got working
very well. But on FC6 all I did was yum install vlc and it worked fine.
But on F7 it gave up nothing to do. Is there a way to get it to look for
it as if it is FC^?

Open Office Multiple Language Support
by potat0
In a Open Office installation (FC7 64bit) I could not get the second
language support to spell check.
rpm -qa | grep open | grep lang | less
showed that they were installed.
To resolve the problem (OO was 64 bit version), I uninstalled the two
extra languages, and reinstalled them. This time, the 64 bit versions
were downloaded and the installation resulted in OpenOffice second
language support now being functional.
Just posting what to do in case you encounter the same situation.
