help moving addresses?
by Dave Stevens
Hi,
I have posted already to the kde-pim list with no response, so am trying here.
I have two computers, old and new running respectively FC5 x86_64 and F7
x86_64. On the old I have kaddressbook 3.5.3. I'd like to move it's 1500 or
so contacts to kmail 1.9.7 on the new computer. I can manage the data
transfer but what files do I need to move?
I know I can export and reimport but is there something simpler?

Hard Drive data rates
by Karl Larsen
I was lead to mis-understand the data rate of my new SATA hard
drive. It indicated that the data rate was 3 GB/sec. But some checking
with Google said the Hard Drive makers are very free with their units.
To be specific a SATA drive is 3000 MegaBits/second. This boils down to
about 375 MB.
The old standard IDE parallel 40 pin plug is rated for a rate of 112
MB at the fastest to 78 GB at the slowest part of the platter. So in my
case I will not see a huge change moving to my SATA hard drive. I will
stay here on the new IDE much longer.

Best way to backup a specific drive?
by Dan Thurman
I am preparing to backup my root drive in preparation
for installing f7. What is the best way to do this?
I have in /dev/hda as:
/boot = /dev/hda1
/ = /dev/hda2
I have backed up /boot with: tar zcvpf /boot.tgz /boot
But have get to figure out how to get /dev/hda2 backed up without
picking up the other drives mounted on /
Of course, I am saving the backups on a different drive so that I can
use specific files I want to restore or refer to when rebuilding the new
f7 installation.
Thanks!
Dan

Did any1 configured Urdu read/write support successfully in F7?
by Mustafa Qasim
Hello!
Is there anyone who has configured F7 to read/write Urdu
successfully. Currently the official support for Urdu available in F7 is not
sufficient. It displays broken words while reading/writing. Ubunto is
currently fully equipped with Urdu read/write support but I've not used
Ubunto. So, in this case can someone gave me kind guidance ,so I can drive
out Urdu Suport from Ubunto to work in Fedora?

minimum centos
by tony.chamberlain@lemko.com
Is there any way to install CentOS using just one CD?
We have someone in India and I guess he does not
have time to download all the CentOS CDs by tomorrow,
so he would like to install a minumum where you need just
one.
I am not sure what combination of installation packages would
stay on one CD?

Why radeontool?
by Doug Wyatt
Yesterday, when I ran 'yum update' on F7 I got two packages
installed for which I can't find a reason (see yum log
excerpt below).
The two new packages are vbetool and radeontool. From
what I can find, both used to be part of pm-utils.
I really don't know about vbetool, maybe it's needed, but
radeontool is described as:
"radeontool is a hack to save some battery on an
ATI Radeon Mobility graphics chip. Radeontool can
turn off and on the backlight and external video
output."
But, my platform is a desktop, not a laptop, with a GeForce
6800 GT video card.
Using yumex, I tried uninstalling radeontool to see what
depended on it; there were nearly 200 of them and pretty
much none of those were optional. They included most of
the OpenOffice pkgs, Control-Center and system-config-*,
for example.
Can anyone explain, or even speculate, why radeontool?
Regards,
Doug Wyatt

Vegas questions, questions, questions....
by Claude Jones
I've on deadline crunch and butting my head against the wall. This seems like
it should be simple. Doc is centered on screen talking away and he refers to
product - I want to cut to a shot of him moved over taking up the right two
thirds of the screen - so far so good; on the left third of the screen I want
a blue background gradient going from near black at bottom to deep blue at
top - so far so good (over this I'm going to bring up relevant product info
as he discusses it - so far so good); so, here's my question - how do I do a
soft transition between my right background edge and the live video of Doc? I
found the 'Sony Border' effect, but that does all sides of the gradient - I
just want to soften the edge between the gradient and the video...

FC6 - Xeon DP crashes
by Fedora@Wilson.CX
Hi Fedora list:
I'm having a problem with a FC6 server running kernels
kernel-2.6.22.5-49.fc6 and kernel-2.6.22.2-42.fc6.
The hardware is:
Tyan Tiger i7501R S2735. newest BIOS.
Intel 32 bit Xeon 2.8Ghz 533 FSB sSpec SL6VN
3G DDR reg ECC RAM.
2 * 80GB IDE DASD.
The interesting bit: The server resets, no kernel panic, no oops,
nothing but a reset. I have *.debug in syslog, and see no errors in
syslog or in dmesg.
The resets seem random. They can occur at any point within a couple
hours of boot.
This ONLY happens when I have two processors on the board. I have
rotated multiple processors in the second socket, and from the second
socket to the primary socket. They only way the server is stable is when
it has only a single processor.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks;
E!
