Yum repair
by Timothy Murphy
I upgraded FC-6 to F-7 on an Athlon64 machine,
and the process hung several (3 I think) times during installation.
Each time I re-started the machine,
the number of packages was greatly reduced: 950 ... 400 ... 50.
The system works fine,
but it is pretty clear all the packages were not properly installed.
Eg when I ran "yum update" after the installation
only 30 or so packages were downloaded,
while on other systems the number was 300-400.
Is there any way of checking that everything has been downloaded?
Or is there even a command like "yum --force install"
to force a re-installation of a particular package?

keyspan usb serial and fc6 help
by matt pieklik
I had my keyspan USB serial adapter 19HS working with FC5, but now
that I have upgraded to FC6 it is no longer fully functional. It is
detected, and I get one way communication through it when I use
minicom. I am able to send but not receive, I determined this by
connecting two machine via serial.
Is this a problem with the USB serial adapter, or do I not have the
associated serial port configured correctly?
Here is the output from the startup:

/tmp running out of space
by Anne Wilson
/tmp is filling up rapidly. I'm guessing that it would be safe enough to
delete everything dated previous to the last bootup. Am I right?

Rsync
by Paul Ward
Hi Peeps,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use rsync to back up an ftp site
that uses a password.
I am aware of rsync://[USER@]HOST[:PORT]/SRC [DEST] but how do I
handle the password?
If this is not possible does it mean I have to use sftp?
Thanks in advance

Can scp be used to update a directory?
by Anne Wilson
The scp man page is not very verbose ;-) I want to copy a directory,
recursively, over the lan, but only those files that are new or updated.
MS-DOS could do this back in ...Ummm.... so I can't believe it can't be done
in scp, but I can't see how to do it.

New FC6 Installation DVD released
by Lyvim Xaphir
Latest FC6 Respin installation DVD was released on 2007-01-19. Lots of
known FC6 bugs fixed and it uses the latest updated packages as of Jan
11th. If you have had install problems with Core 6 before, you are
encouraged to try installation with this new FC6 Respin DVD.
http://fedoraunity.org/news-archives/core-6-re-spin-20070111/
"The Fedora Unity Project is proud to announce the release of new ISO
Re-Spins of Fedora Core 6. These Re-Spin ISOs are based on Fedora Core 6
and all updates released as of January 11th, 2007. The ISO images are
available for i386 and x86_64 architectures via BitTorrent starting
Thursday, January 18th, 2007. PPC images will follow within the next 5
days, but will have had only limited testing.
This release was delayed while waiting for fixes to known issues with
Fedora Core 6[1] as well as the creation of a new tool for composing
Re-Spins. Previous releases were built with a homebrew script. This
release was built with the new tool called Pungi[2], developed by Jesse
Keating, a leading community member and Fedora Release Engineer, with
community input. This tool will be used in future official Fedora
releases and for Fedora Unity Re-Spins. We have joined in this effort to
bring a full featured tool to the Fedora community, enabling anyone to
build Re-Spins and Live-Spins now and in the future."

Forgot to mention 2 things:
1) "exit 0" is not good since the file is included in another script
(I think), so you end up skipping the rest of its parent (where dhcp
is started).
You should add something like
if WPA ....
fi
around all the settings via "iwconfig"
2) I had to disable ipv6 completely, otherwise my interfaces (both
wireless and cable) were not able to go up and down. They were up once
and then if-down hanged.
