Yum on x86_64
by Gareth Bult
Hi,
I seem to have (finally :) ) acquired a complete(ish) / working x86_64
system .. but I'm still having trouble with a few bits, not least "yum".
I get;
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Released Updates
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Unreleased Updates
Finding updated packages
Traceback (most recent call last):

File "clientStuff.py", line 363, in getupdatedhdrlist
File "clientStuff.py", line 409, in bestversion

[root@squizzey oddjob]#
(This is a modified system [2.6.0-test11] however it seems to run well)
Pointing it at mozilla's channel for SeaMonkey seems to work if I
disable the default channels, however...
Anyone any ideas ?
(I was sort of expecting to see it say "no x86_64 updates supported yet"
as opposed to a complete crash)
Also, can yum pull SRPMS and rebuild them ?

Thunderbird and Snapshot
by Paul Lemmons
I am almost certain I have done this before but I am getting old and may
be imagining things. I have opened up a new message in Thunderbird
(latest and greatest). I have verified that the format is "Rich Text
(HTML)". I go to KSnapShot and snap a section of the screen and click on
the "Copy to Clipboard" button. I then try to paste it into the note and
it simply does nothing.
Am I missing something? I would like to paste an image into a note to
send as documentation to someone.

Canon Elura 100 Camcorder and FC5
by Robert L Cochran
I gave my wife a Canon Elura 100 camcorder for Christmas. I just watched
her download her very first movie to Windows XP. Can I do the same in
Fedora Core 5? If I just plugged in the camcorder to my onboard 1394
port, will an application come up recognizing the camcorder and offering
to download the movie from the DV tape?
Thanks

Python, RPM error
by Austin Isler
I apologize if this is in the archives, and I missed it.
I updated rpm a while back with:
# yum -y update rpm
I believe it installed a python2.4 package as well. Ever since then, I
have had problems with python and rpm. I get this error when trying to
use yum:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 6, in ?
import yummain
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/yummain.py", line 23, in ?
import yum
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 21, in ?
import rpm
ImportError: No module named rpm
Appreciate the help,
Austin

Producing pdf files with copyable text
by Paul Smith
Dear All
To get a pdf file with the contents of a web-page, I produce a ps file
and then I use ps2pdf. However, no text can be copied from the
resulting pdf file. Is there other way of producing a pdf file with
copyable text?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

firefox bookmarks
by Richard E Miles
Is it possible to save the firefox bookmarks so that when I do a clean install
of FC4 I can reload them?
I tried to cp the bookmarks.html file back into the /home/rmiles/.mozilla/firefox/0qem39dn.default directory but it did not
restore them from an earlier saving of this file.
It would be nice to be able to reset the bookmarks that I had in FC 3 to the FC 4
firefox.

Public keys - again.
by Anne Wilson
Realising that I hadn't installed lshw since I installed FC6, I tried to get
it today and came up once again against the public key problem. I'll never
get the hang of this :-( I followed the link on freshrpm's web page and
saved the file, then ran 'rpm --import path/to/file' which appeared to put it
into the right place, but still the package wouldn't install because it said
there was no public key. Wondering whether the problem was because something
was broken in my repo setup - out of date, perhaps - I removed the repo and
reinstalled it. Still no joy. Just what is it that I have forgotten?

FC6 Cups with Samsung - 1610 laser printer
by Antonio M
I am using a Samsung ML-1610 laser printer.
I am experiencing many problems in printing images either with Eog,
Gimp or documents including same images as a openoffice writer
document or a PDF document.
I can't print my photo (that it is not a real problem as I use an
external lab)!!!
When I installed the printer (that was working a little bit better
with previous versions of Cups) I was compelled to use the GDI driver,
as if I try to use Postscript driver I get an internal cups server
error..
When I try to print an image i see red light flashing but no printing!!!
Any help

/dev/mapper and Anaconda install failures (FC6 x86_64)
by Sean Bruno
I've been wrestling with anaconda this evening on my x86_64 machine. It
seems that anaconda (or some other piece of the installer) is
forcing /dev/mapper to be created even when I have no RAID devices
enabled.
I have cleared the 'fake' raid stuff off of my disks from rescue
mode(dmraid -E), but with 2 disks installed the installer insists on
trying to configure /dev/mapper/mpath0.
I see each disk individually if I only have one SATA drive connected at
a time. Which seems odd as heck to me, but I can install FC6 and at
least send you folks this email this way.
Is there a 'nodmraid' option to the installer that I can pass to allow
me to see /dev/sda & /dev/sdb instead of the dmraid stuff? What's even
stranger is that there appears to be a way to disable dmraid from the
GUI screen when you choose to 'remove all partitions', but the option is
greyed out?!?
Any guidance would be appreciated.
