by Joachim Backes
Hi,
having the problem that xmaple (maple-10) does not run on FC5: it exits immediately.
maple-10 itself runs als CLI perfectly, but not as X application.
Did somebody make similar experiences, or did somebody solve this problem?
Any anwer is appreciated.

I may have been unclear. I do not want to configure zfcp. I didn't know
what it was until this message showed up. It's fine with me that
anaconda isn't configuring zfcp. I included the message because it's the
LAST thing anaconda prints. I suspect that whatever anaconda does AFTER
checking for a zfcp configuration is causing the problem.

Re: kubuntu install takes over my fc5 grub

Much the same thing happened to me with a beta version of opensuse,
I found these instructions to get back control of the master boot record:
Boot off fedora dvd.
Type linux rescue, answer all the questions, might as well skip
mounting any partitions.
grub
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
quit
exit
This assumes, of course, that the first partition of the 1st
disk is where you were previously booting from. Might have to
adjust the hd0 and hd0,0 if it was a different partition.

Jack Byers response
I thinki solved it, at least i got the fc5 boot menu back
1st atttempt
booted off a knoppix cd
went to a root shell
tried the above cmds, it gave weird response even to r (hd0,0)
andthen failed completely on setup (hd0)
2d attempt, still booted up in knoppix
grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
(I got this from carla schroder book linux cookbook)
it gave seral responses but hd0,0 was not among them
even tho my fc5 is on sda1
i probably got several responses bc of my multi linux os setup
i picked the lowest response to use
root (hd1,0)
setup (hd1)
all looked good
quit
and rebooted
got my usual fc5 boot menu back!!!!!
not sure of why hd0,0 didnt work. maybe bc of using the knoppix cd to boot
from?
anyway much thanks to Tom
the next thing is to see if my grub.conf is properly setup to boot the k.new
ubuntu
it should be, but this mixture of hd0,0 and hd1,0 tells me i dont
really
know what is going on

find/xargs question...
by bruce
hi...
i have what i think is a combination find/xargs question....
i'm trying to search through a dir tree for files matching certain patterns
and i want to rename the files. i'd also like to ignore certain dirs.
ie...
[root@lserver2 wctest]# ls -al
total 24
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 .
drwxr-xr-x 48 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:45 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 class
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 faculty
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 .svn
./class:
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 248 Dec 27 21:46 childClass.py
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Dec 27 21:46 .svn
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 239 Dec 27 21:46 zu_fl_2772Class.py <<<<<
i'd like to find any file with "zu_fl*Class" and replace it with
zu..ClassFFFF. so basically, i'm finding any given file with a pattern
followed by Class, and adding FFFF to it along with the file extension.
i'd also like to ignore specific dirs as well... in this case, i'd like to
ignore the ".svn" folder...
this should be pretty esay, but i can't seem to get the nuances down.
any thoughts/preferrably pointers as to how to perform this action..
thanks

Does anyone have NFSv4 working in Fedora Core 6?
by Arthur Pemberton
Does anyone actually have NFS4 working on an FC6 machine? I've been
trying for hours to mount using nfs4.
When i using `mount` I get:
mount: pinging: prog 100003 vers 4 prot tcp port 2049
mount.nfs4: Operation not permitted
When I use `mount.nfs4` I get:
mount.nfs4: Operation not permitted
In addition to that, if I use any of the parameters for mount.nfs4
documented in its usage text, i get the usage text printed out again.
Please advise. My next option is to use samba if this doesn't pan out.

How to tell where a symbol is satisfied from.
by Reg Clemens
I have a little test program test.c, and test.o shows '__moddi3' as
an external (thats two underscores at the beginning if they
dont show in your mail reader).
I have run the script
for i in lib*
do
echo $i
nm $i | grep __moddi3
done
over all the lib files in /lib, /usr/lib, and /usr/local/lib, and I dont find
this
function __moddi3 defined anywhere (its used a number of places, and seems
to be an INTERNAL symbol in a few others,- but never external).
How do I find out where this symbol is defined???
I have a 2nd program where it also appears, but DOESNT get loaded, so
I want to be able to specify the appropriate library.
---
For reference, here is the test program:
#define MULMOD(x,y,p) ((int) ((((long long) (x)) * ((long long) (y))) % ((long
long) (p))))
main()
{
long long x, y, p;
int i;
x = 2;
y = 3;
p = 4;
i = MULMOD (x, y, p);
}

Help for firefox neededhelp for firefox needed

hi all!
I was initially having RHEL4 U4 in my laptop and was able to listen to
most of the music online. Trouble has started now with FC6.
The site is : musicindiaonline.com.
I try to listen to any music here..the thing is that, it pops out a
winidow which detects the presence of Java and players installed. Then
it asks for choosing a player between RealPlayer and Windows Media
Player. I choose RealPlayer and click ok button (or whatever is
there). It then doesn't play the song/music but throws an error window
stating --- Error: Methods Missing.
Please help. I have realplay, mplayer etc all installed. I am able to
play mpeg,ogg files but from sites like the one I mentioned above, I
am not able to listen to any music. The same error is thrown in
Seamonkey and epiphany.
Regards,
Amitakhya Phukan.
p.s : I have posted it in fedora-devel. But n0dalus has said it should
be in this list. Please help someone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but SpamBayes can be run with little effort in a pop/imap proxy setup while you can't do that with
SpamAssassin (at least, as I understand SpamAssassin is when you are running your own mail server where SpamAssassin can filter out
incoming mail but it's fairly useless when your a client connecting to a mail server that does a poor job or no spam filtering)? If
I'm wrong please correct me as I also like what SpamAssassin has to offer and it /does/ seem to offer more that SpamBayes but it's
certainly not obvious (at least to me) how to use it as a client side spam buster as opposed to the server side.

Fwd: 2.6.19 kernel won't boot due to "VolGroup00" not found
by Ed Hourigan
---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Ed Hourigan <ed.hourigan(a)gmail.com>

Subject: 2.6.19 kernel won't boot due to "VolGroup00" not found
To: fedora-list(a)redhat.com
I seem to be having issues booting the 2.6.19 kernel from kernel.org.
I have FC-6 installed and wanted to upgrade the kernel from kernel.org
(I have done this many times before)
When I go to boot my newly built kernel, I get a kernel panic due to:
Volume Group "VolGroup00" not found
When I built the kernel, I used my current kernel .config file (2.6.18 from
fc6) by doing a 'make oldconfig'.
Has anyone successfully upgraded to 2.6.19 kernel from kernel.org on FC6 ???
Thank you.

Problems with FC6 and 3com 3CRWE154G72 wireless card
by Jonathan Underwood
Hi,
With a fresh install of FC-6 I am having some trouble with my pcmcia
wireless card - a 3com 3CRWE154G72. This card uses the prism54 driver,
and I have installed the correct firmware file in /lib/firmware
(isl3890). I can get it to work by brute force, but would really like
to debug this further, and file a bug report under the correct
component - right now I'm not sure where the bug is.
Symptoms:
1) Card doesn't activate on boot, even though the prism54 module is
loaded. Doing a modprobe -r prism54 followed by a modprobe prism54
starts the card succesfully, and all is well.
2) in system-config-network, when I try to add the card under
hardware, after I have selected the card, which is identified as 3com
3c501, I get this error message:
Command failed: /sbin/modprobe 3c501
Output:
FATAL: Module 3c501 not found.
Why is it trying to load a module called 3c501? Obviously that's not
correct. Is this a problem with HAL perhaps? I have looked thru the
fdi files in /use/share/hal/fdi, but nothing leaps out at me.
Despite not being able to add this device under hardware, I can
succesfully add a network device using this card in the Devices tab,
which functions fine, after I've done the modprobe remove and load in
(1) above.
I am a bit in the dark about what governs which modules are loaded
when a device is recognized - is this a hal problem, or a hotplug
problem, or??
Any pointers will be welcome,
Jonathan
