FC5 & Dell 2007FPW - Anybody got widescreen?
by Naoki
Howdy all,
Anybody managed to get 1680x1050 as an available resolution in
'gnome-display-properties' ?
I'm running an intel 945G graphics chip and all I get is 1600x1200 with
no widescreen options.
If anybody knows the magic xorg.conf hack I'd be very happy to hear it.
Cheers.

FC upgrades and LVMs
by Mark Haney
I've got a server running Fedora Core 2, (Yeah I know) that I am getting
ready to upgrade to FC4 (with a plan to bump to FC5 soon). I have one
3TB FC array that is ext3 and one that's an LVM group. Will I see any
problems mounting that LVM group after I upgrade to FC4?

what does FC5 x86-64 upgrade do with i386?
by Jack Howarth
I am still a bit unclear on what I should expect when attempting
to upgrade a FC4 x86-64 installation to FC5 x86-64. Specifically, I
have installed the i386 firefox and associated plugin rpms on the
FC4 x86-64 machine using yum.repos.d entries of fedora.i386.repo,
fedora-updates.i386.repo and fedora-extras.i386.repo (which are all
disabled by default). How exactly does the anaconda react to the
presence of the i386 rpms on a x86-64 machine? Will they be removed
in favor of the x86-64 rpms form FC5?
Also I have asked this several times here before but never gotten
a response. How are people keeping their i386 rpms properly updated
on a x86-64 machine? So far I can see no other option than to manually
reinstall the i386 packages with yum (using --enable-repo) when new
versions are available. However that is a very painful process and
makes it very difficult to keep the i386 rpms on a x86-64 machine
properly updated.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

belong to it missing:

missing /var/rkhunter/db/mirrors.dat
missing /var/rkhunter/db/os.dat
missing /var/rkhunter/db/programs_bad.dat

Is this a updating problem of rkhunter itself? Or some rootkits kill it?

Testing sendmail + milter-greylist
by Tim Alberts
I have a standalone test FC5 box running sendmail. I yum install
milter-greylist...went through the docs and found I need to add
INPUT_MAIL_FILTER(`greylist',
`S=local:/var/run/milter-greylist/milter-greylist.sock')
define(`confMILTER_MACROS_CONNECT', `j, {if_addr}')
define(`confMILTER_MACROS_HELO', `{verify}, {cert_subject}')
define(`confMILTER_MACROS_ENVFROM', `i, {auth_authen}')
define(`confMILTER_MACROS_ENVRCPT', `{greylist}')
to my sendmail.m4 and rebuild.
I started /usr/sbin/milter-greylist. I restarted sendmail 'service
restart sendmail' (after rebuilding with webmin interface) and in my
system log error messages I get
Oct 10 15:21:13 localhost sendmail[1955]: sql_select option missing
Oct 10 15:21:13 localhost sendmail[1955]: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available
Any comments or suggestions? Again, at this point it's just a dumb test box with the 'default' sendmail.m4 file.
All I want to do is play with milter-greylist a bit before I try and deploy it on a server.

FC6 client fails to NFS mount from Solaris 8 server
by Miner, Jonathan W (US SSA)
Hi -
Long time Linux user, just upgraded from FC5 to FC6 and now can longer mount drives from my Solaris 8 (Sun Cluster 2.1) server. I can sucessfully mount filesystems from RedHat Enterprise Linux 4ES (Update 4) servers.
1) SELinux and IPtables are both disabled.
2) I can "ping" and "telnet" to the Solaris server, and "showmount -e" lists all the exported filesystems
3) tcpdump shows network traffic between the client and server
4) mount -t nfs server:/path /mnt commands time out with "Server not responding" messages
Any ideas?

mplayer in fc5 problems
by Chris Jones
Hi,
After updating from fc5 to fc6 I'm trying to get mplayer working again. On
FC5, I was able to view bbc sites, such as
http://news.bbc.co.uk/
and click on any of the view icons
however with fc5 it worked, the mplayer plugin fired up. With fc6 it does. If
I try and open the url by hand I get
mplayer http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3681938.stm
Win32 LoadLibrary failed to load:
avisynth.dll, /usr/lib/codecs/avisynth.dll, /usr/lib/win32/avisynth.dll, /usr/local/lib/win32/avisynth.dll
Has anyone managed to get this to work ?

Can,t send mail in t-bird or evolution.????
by potat0
This is an issue for my fedora box only. I get the error that "the
message could not be sent b/c connecting to smpt server failed. The
server may be unavailable or is refusing smpt connections. Please
verify that your smpt setting is correct and try again, or else
contact your admin. All setting are the same as xp and my suse
partitions?? Does the permissions for t-bird have to be set to read
and write for users to send mail??? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have posted this in three other sites forums w/o a single reply.
