aacraid write through cache into write back cache
by Samuel Díaz García
I have an Adaptec 2410SA raid controller with RAID 1 configured on it.
The system is an AMD ATHLON 1800 CPU. With FC4 updated distro.
The system is working fine, but TOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW.
Taking a view into startup messages I can see:
sda: got wrong page
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
In dmesg:
...
AAC0: kernel 4.1-0[5934]
AAC0: monitor 4.1-0[5934]
AAC0: bios 4.1-0[5934]
AAC0: serial bab115
scsi0 : aacraid
Vendor: ADAPTEC Model: UNO Rev: V1.0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
SCSI device sda: 156247808 512-byte hdwr sectors (79999 MB)
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
sda: got wrong page
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
SCSI device sda: 156247808 512-byte hdwr sectors (79999 MB)
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00
sda: got wrong page
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
sda: sda1 sda2 sda3
Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
...
I think changing write through into write back cache will solve the problem.
The controller utility was used to configure all caches in the drivers.
Any help about this topic?
Thanks

XFS file system
by don fisher
I can determine that the XFS file system is supported. But it does not
appear to be mainstream (e.g. no mkfs.xfs etc). Abut two years ago it
was used for large (>4TB) and fast file systems.
What is the current status of XFS. Most all of the documentation I
have been able to locate date from the last century.

New dvd player & perms
by George Hare
Hi all and Happy New Year to you!
I just had a Benq dual-layer dvd player installed on an ABIT KV8 PRO
mobo using FC4 86x64 and when I try to use it, let's say to play a
dvd, I get error messages saying the device does not have permission.
The box came with a dvd player and that one works fine. How can I give
permissions to the new device? TIA

Updating Evolution to 2.4.x in FC4
by John Francis
Are there any plans to update Evolution to a newer version (e.g. 2.4.x) in
Fedora Core 4?
There is a major bug in 2.2.3 when trying to use the "Convert to Task"
feature on an email that causes Evolution to crash.

grub or lilo installed?
by Omer Faruk Sen
Hi,
How can I understand a remote system has lilo or grub installed as its
boot manager? I have found that I can learn it from /root/anaconda-ks.cfg
but what if I have deleted that file before?
I have made a egrep -r -i \(lilo\|grub\) /etc but found nothing..
