Much is included with the source (/usr/share/doc/freeradius-1.0.1/) but
for
the most part I just followed the comments in the config files found in
/etc/raddb (if you install via rpm) Also there is a RADIUS O'Reilly
book. I
seem to remember it being very helpful.

I've used FreeRADIUS in the past, its a very powerful and flexible
radius server. We had it set up to do accounting and authentication
against MySQL and Microsoft's SQL server (as well as some proxied
requests to other radius servers). Also if you're looking for help
check out the FreeRADIUS list serves.

Slow page rendering with Firefox
by Raman Gupta
The firefox on my fully updated Fedora Core 4 box renders many larger
pages very slowly. During the page rendering, Firefox "hangs"
completely. A good test page is:
http://scragz.com/tech/mozilla/test-rendering-time.php
Rendering the scragz page, and others, on the same hardware and OS,
various other browsers are over 4 times faster, including Firefox for
windows:
Linux Firefox 1.06 42.23
Linux Konqueror 3.4.2-0.fc4.1 13.27
Linux Opera 8.02 build 1272 7.08
Windows (via VMWare) Firefox 1.06 8.18
Windows (via VMWare) IE 6 7.12
All of the above times are without any extensions *or* plugins installed
(in fact, with Greasemonkey installed, Linux Firefox took over 100
seconds to render).
Running an strace on the Firefox process while loading occurred shows a
lot of time being spent in brk() calls (usually one brk call was over
20s). Here is output from "vmstat 5" while the page rendering is occurring:
procs -----------memory---------- -swap- ---io--- --system-- ----cpu----

So swapping is not an issue. Lots of memory is available if cache is
included. Not much disk activity is happening, but the CPU is getting
hammered.
This was also tested using a completely new profile (no ~/.mozilla
directory present), with the same result.
Can anyone else duplicate these results? Does anybody have any other
debugging/setup/configuration suggestions?

Implementing networked /home
by Reuben D. Budiardja
Hello,
I have several linux (FC and Redhat) workstations. I am thinking of
implementing a centralized /home for this workstations, using NFS.
Authentication is done using NIS.
I have several questions about how to implement this, and what's the best way.
Here are the options I'm considering:
1. On the server: export /home. On the clients: mount /home. I know how to do
this. This should be the simplest.
2. On the server, export /home/user1, /home/user2, etc, thus for each user
there is a "export line" for that user home directory. On the clients:
mount /home/username whenever username login to that workstation.
What is the advantages or disadvantages of (1) and (2) ? I have seen (2) being
used on some network (that I don't administer), so I am wondering if this is
the usual best practice. Furthermore I'm not sure I know how to do (2). Is
there a PAM module that do this ? I have also read that a lot of mount points
can put heavy load on the server, so I am not sure if (2) is better.
Any suggestions, or pointers is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

by Strong
I'm in dout if my mplayer*pre7 uses 3d-harware.
Is there a way how to check/fix it?
I made it out of src.rpm.
I tried to turn on gl and gl2 - it blinks!
Currently i use xv, xvidix - refuses to work at all.

ATI propriety driver: no 3D
by A.J. Bonnema
Hi all,
I've just installed the 64 kernel FC4 on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 with a Asus
AX800XL (which is a Radeon X800 card).
For a driver I used the propriety one from ATI so I could play
freedroidRPG (it needs 3D acceleration).
What happens is, the /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows the following messages:
(II) Loading sub module "fglrxdrm"
(II) LoadModule: "fglrxdrm"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.a

(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available *
(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *
So, bottom line is, I have no 3D accelleration because the
/dev/dri/card0 is missing?
Or, is 3D hardware acceleration just not available for Radeon X800 cards?
If I start freedroidRPG anyway, it ends my X-session immediately
(really: a fraction of a second) and I am presented a logon screen......
Does anyone know what is wrong here?
Guus.

chown
by Liloulinx
Hi,
Evry time when I create a directory, automaticaly the system make the
root as the owner of this directory. When I (the user or the root) try
to change its owner (by using the chown commande), the answer of the
system is "not allowed Operation".
Where is the problem? is there a bad parameter...
thanks.

Re: Setting Up Linksys Wireless Internet with Fadora
by mindwave@cfl.rr.com

https://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/downloads-installer.php
in my laptop and it works like a charm.
its $20 but WELL worthwhile.
the ndiswrapper would load but i could never get it connected to my
network by manually configuring.
my time is worth a little more than $20.

Hello All,
I am trying to set up a wireless network in my house and one of the computers is running Fadora. I know absolutly nothing about the operating system and any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to know where exactly I enter the key so that the adapter can connect to the network.
Thanks in Advance
