moz/bird -> evolution
by Morgan Read
Hi
Can anyone help on migrating from moz/thunderbird to evolution.
I've waited until evo 2, which was supposed to do this. When I attempt
to import from another programme it finds nothing - this despite me
having mail under .mozilla (from fc2) mail under .thunderbird (migrated
from moz in fc2) and a softlink from .Netscape to .mozilla...
If I choose the import a single mailbox only function in evo I have no
problem - but, I've got six mail folders, five accounts & a dozen odd
address books to move over, so this is a PITA...
Any help much appreciated?
Thanks,
Morgan.

I've beed able to set up two FC3's with a single grub, but what I'd really
like to do is set up a second grub and have the first chainload to the
second. (I want to play with custom kernels) on the second.
I have two ide's, hda and hdb. My first fc3 is on hda. I tried installing
the second fd3 with /boot on hdb1 and / on hdb2. I told anaconda to put the
second grub on the mbr and used the advanced bootloader screen to reorder
the drives so it would write it to hdb instead of hda.
After installing, I went to my first grub.conf and added
title Second Fedora
rootnoveriy (hd1,0)
chainloader +1
But when I reboot and select Second Fedora, I get Error 12 invalid or
unsupported executable format. What did I do wrong? What's the right way to
set this up?

Date String in rotated Logs
by Vassilios Kotoulas
Hi,
I want to have a date string in my rotated logs, so I added
extension .`date +%Y$m%d`
in my /etc/logrotate.conf but it doesn't work. I have still
$LOGFILE.1.gz
Can I do this via logrotate or have must I run a script via cron after
logrotate runs which renames the .1.gz file?
Regards

iptables -- trying to redirect, but doesn't work
by John G. Norman
Hi.
I'm trying to redirect from one port to another with iptables
(destination NAT -- transparent proxying . . . e.g., "destination NAT"
in this article: http://www.linux-mag.com/content/view/849/2236/).
I've done this many times before, including on SuSE and various
flavors of BSD (with ipfw).
For some reason I can't get it to work on Fedora 3.
I do have ip forwarding on (/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward shows 1)
The command I am trying to use is:
/sbin/iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 -j
REDIRECT --to-port 8080
I've tried this a number of ways, but I always get "connection
refused." (Requests to port 8080 work fine.) I also flushed everything
out of the nat, filter, and mangle tables: Didn't help.
I have also tried it with the default iptables setting when the Fedora
firewall is set to accept requests on 80 and 8080. See below.
I'm stumped. Anyone seen this? Anyone have a working iptables setup on
Fedora 3 with forwarding from one port to another that definitely
works?

I use Fedora Core 3, and I installed all the updated rpm's.
I use a kernel 2.6.12-rc3-RT-V0.7.46-02 (Ingo Molnar's patch)

Boot-up hangs after updting to kernel-2.6.11-1.14_FC3
by yufan
After I updated the kernel to kernel-2.6.11-1.14_FC3,the grub shows 2
kernels during boot up (one is the original one and the other is
kernel-2.6.11-1.14_FC3).if i choose the original kernel,it works fine.
but if i choose the new kernel, the system will just stop at
"configuring system parameters".could someone help me solve this
problem?thanks in advance

Newsreader revisited
by Neal Wilkinson
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been using Pan and like it a lot
but why is it so SLOW? On the windows side I had been using Gravity and
it was very quick on my box (a lowly 1ghz). I think Pan is slower than
Outlook Express (and thats slow). Is there something I can do to tweak
it or my setup so it runs faster? Thanks.

MPlayer
by Mehdi Ben Saïd
I have problems installing MPlayer on Fedora Core.
It asks me to install glibc-devel (GTK libraries) which are already
installed!!!!
By the way there's no package installator as in Redhat 9.

How to check which packages are installed? to remove them?
by Antonio Olivares
Dear List,
On one of my computers, System Settings ->
Add/Remove Applications is not working as it should.
So I removed it within itself, now I cannot see which
packages are installed. I know that the command(s)
have been discussed before but I probably deleted the
messages. rpm -??. Is there a way via command line to
determine which packages are installed in the system
and how to remove them?
Also I would like to ask on how to remove
documentation from the system. I need to know how
much space help/man pages occupies. I need to free up
some space and want to know how to do it.
Regards,
Antonio

Presentations using FC3
by Gustavo Seabra
Hi,
I have to give a seminar using OO.o Impress / FC3, in a Dell Inspiron
8600 laptop. I wonder if anyone could give me a hint on how to make it
work with a projector.
Thanks,
