ZOOM ADSL ROUTER ANSWER;
by Mirco Scara
James,
My zoom adsl is a adsl x3 model 5560, and according to them instruction
manual it can connect up to 253 computers and it can assign each one of
them an individual IP address.
I purchased the zoom adsl x3 in the UK and I am trying to set it up and
use it in Italy.
It easily connects each individual PC but isn't able to connect them
both at the same time.
Please help......

Well, as of this time, the *fix* is not there yet. I HAVE
gotten Eclipse / Tomcat to "work" but it is MANUAL at this
time because apparently this is caused by Eclipse itself
(and not necessarily by Fedora port because I tried the
Eclipse version directly and the problem is the same) but
it appears that somehow the WTP tomcat plugins are not finding,
translating, copying the files over properly to the .metadata
and Servers locations properly for which Tomcat needs before it
can even start.
Specifically:
Servers
tomcat v5.5 Server @ localhost-config
<<< missing required files >>>
And in the .metadata tree is missing:
.metadata
.plugins
org.eclipse.wst.server.core
tmp0
<<<< sometimes directories here get messed up >>>
webapps
<<< missing or corrupted files >>>
So basically - the plug-ins are not able to locate the needed
files to properly construct the base files for which Tomcat
can proceed. Since I have been using Eclipse for awhile on
Windows, I was able to compare Windows against Fedora and copied
files and updated to the proper locations, I was able to get the
Linux Eclipse to run and display my JSP application. But the
minute that I attempt to run the 'Run As' and (re-)assign the
Tomcat to the JSP application - it removes my manual changes
and craps out. So the manual fix is repeated. Makes for painful
development here :-))
Currently, there is no activity in the Fedora-Java group and it
must be due to Xmas/New Years vacation week.
Anyway - I *could* get the Eclipse sources and try to putter
around myself but it would take too long for me to even get
started so I am procrastinating figuring that the *professionals*
resolve this long before I do :-()
Kind regards,
Dan

Configuring Fedora Core 4 & USB Flash drives?
by tlhackque
I was in a maze of twisty passages, so "help!".
Fedora Core 4. Plug in a USB thumb drive.
Successfully recognized by the
kernel & a SCSI "drive" is created. But it doesn't
get mounted put on the
desktop. CDROMs/DVDs do. I have the
desktop->preferences->removable
drives->{mount drives when hot-plugged, media when
inserted clicked. A
manual mount does work; the device then appears on the
desktop as expected.
So something in the hotplug chain is deciding not to
do the mount. I got
lost in the hal/hotplug/automount scripts. Someone's
been here before.
What's the easiest way to track this down? (Or the
recipe for configuring
this device?)
Details below.
Thanks in advance.

yum log?
by Knute Johnson
Hi:
I got the following email from cron this morning. I logged in and
looked at the file, repomd.xml, but since I don't know what I'm
looking for couldn't tell if it was damaged. I tried running yum
update and got a similar message back. I then ran yum clean all and
then yum update and it seems to work fine now. This is on an FC3
desktop machine and there haven't been any updates from yum for me
since the 17th. I presume that there won't be many as FC5 is
approaching? Do these files get damaged on occaision? Thanks,
/etc/cron.daily/yum.cron:

Installing on an AMD K6-2-350
by david
Folks
I have an ancient machine that ran FC1 just fine.
However, now when I boot from the installation CD (1), and enter
linux text
the system reboots itself.
I can't get out of this loop.
Should I discard the computer, or is there some magic boot parameter that
might work?
Or some alternate solution, since floppys are too small.
Thanks

PAM pwdb "structure not valid" messages
by B Wooster
In /var/log/messages, I get these lines:
PAM_pwdb ... get passwd; pwdb: structure is no longer valid
when a failed login takes place on a FTP session.
I don't see that line when a valid username/password is used with FTP.
Which leads me to believe that the shadow/passwd file is all fine, is
this is a config issue or a bug?
In /etc/pam.d/ftp file, if I comment out this line:
auth required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so shadow nullok
then I don't get the "stucture no longer valid" messages (but of
course, PAM is now out of the picture).
I'm running FC3, all latest versions using "yum update", and proftpd
is my FTP server.

Disk Configuration
by Chris Norman
Hi,
As I said yesterday, I mounted a new disk into my machine and set a
background wget pulling some images for me, the only trouble is, I shut down
the machine last night, and had to remount the drive this morning. Is there
any way of this being done on startup without my intervention? I have a
feeling it's to do with fstab-sync, but when I ran it, I got this output:
[root@bob ~]# fstab-sync
error: libhal_ctx_init_direct: (null): (null)
Is this a problem with my fstab-sync? Or a problem with that disk I e-mailed
about yesterday?
Cheers,
Chris Norman

problem with logwatch
by Will Yonker
I need some help. Logwatch is not sending me any emails. I'm not sure
what exactly is wrong.
These work:
/etc/cron.daily/0logwatch --service http
/etc/cron.daily/0logwatch --logfile messages
Now then. If I try:
/etc/cron.daily/0logwatch --service All
I get nothing. No errors, no emails. It just silently goes away.
I've tried using the debug but there is so much output I can't see
anything that stands out. The only thing that I've done differently on
this system is mount /var and /tmp as nosuid and noexec (different
partitions). I think logwatch was working for a while like this so I'm
not sure if that is the problem.
Thank you in advance.
