Fedora Core 3 Sound Problems....?
by Seng Lee
Hi there,
I'm new at this Linux thing and i've just installed Fedora Core 3 on
my desktop, so i hope someone would be kind enough to help me out with
my problems.
After installing Fedora, the first thing i notice is that i can't play
any VCD, DVD or even normal audio CDs; I "tested" my soundcard and it
work find because i can hear the sample sound played in the "Sound
Card Detection" section and i can also hear all the system events
sounds.... so far that is my worries after installing Fedora into my
desktop apart from not being able to access my NTFS partition but that
i can solve..... so pls help me out with my sound ( & video )
problems. thanks.

Failed MediaCheck
by Jared Schrag
I downloaded the Fedora Core 3 *.iso CD images successfully from the various mirror sites and
successfully ran the sumchecker md5sum on each file -- all were successfully checked.
I then proceeded to burn each image to CD using Ahead Nero 5, it has a function to burn discs
specifically from image files.
I then followed the instructions to very the integrity of each of the CDs I created by booting
from disc 1, and at the boot: prompt, I ran the command "linux mediacheck"; however, all 5 discs
(4 installation discs and the rescue disc) failed the mediacheck command.
Has anybody else experience the same problem? Shall I continue using these CDs anyway, since the
original files I downloaded all passed the checksum test?
Thank you for your input.

No drivers for the intel marvell yukon NIC for FC3...
by Alan :)
To all fedora gurus out there:
SPECS:
===================================================
OS.................................... Fedora 3
System................................ Gateway 2k
Motherboard........................... Intel (Luxemburg) 915G Motherboard R0
NIC (Integrated in the motherboard)... Marvell Yukon Ethernet
THE PROBLEM:
===================================================
There appears that there's no support for this NIC from the FC3 distribution set. There are drivers at http://downloadfinder.intel.com/ for redhat only.
Does anybody have a solution for this problem?
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Options For Installing Fedora To Older Laptop
by Robert L Cochran
My Sony Vaio PCG-F350 laptop (Pentium II 364 MHz, 192 Mb RAM) is running
out of hard drive space. The machine is running Fedora Core 2. It is
still using the original 6 Gb hard drive, and has 491 Mb of free space
left. I'd love a new machine, but I'm loathe to spend the money right
now, especially as one of my kids will soon need to gear up for
university. I figure I can just install a bigger hard drive on the machine.
I am thinking of simply popping in the new hard drive and then
installing Fedora Core 3 to it. Does that sound like a good option -- or
will Core 3 grind to a halt? It doesn't have much memory. But the new
drive will have faster rotational speed plus an 8 Mb buffer, so that
might help a little bit. Or should I stick with Fedora Core 2, which I
already know runs slowly, but it does run. I have a Buffalo wireless PC
card that I can use with this baby for my internet connection.
Thanks

LIRC on Laptop + hELP!!
by Ow Mun Heng
Does anyone on either of this list know how to properly configure LIRC
esp on a laptop?
I have a D600, and I've verified that the IRDA works under linux. (using
the SIR protocol)
I've tried to make lirc work but am unsure why there's no
response.
Just to be sure, IRDA is _not_ started when I start LIRCd.
ls -l /dev/lirc* gets me
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jan 26 2005 /dev/lircd
prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 26 2005 /dev/lircm
and also /dev/lirc/0
if I start lircd via
sudo lircd -n -d /dev/lirc/0 on a console and then
I start "irw" on another, pressing _any_ buttons on the remote (any
remote) doesn't give me any output.
Addition to that, using irrecord also does not work.
Does anyone has any experience in this?? All the stuffs I've seen on the
internet involves a home-brewed IR receiver.
If I can't get this to work, Mythtv will be of not much use :-(
Did I mention that I looked and followed the tute found on
Fedoranews.org? The thing is, I don't have
a ATI USB remote nor any other fancy remote.
I'm trying it on one(few) of those TV remotes lying around the house
