Linux-friendly ISPs?
by Adam Boettiger
Do any of the major ISPs offer dialup or broadband access that is
compatible with Linux?
I searched and all I came up with were hosting account providers, not
connectivity.

Loki games
by Pasha R
Hi,
Does anyone have any information about problems with games ported by
Loki and newest kernels? Any idea how these crashes may be resolved? I
tried the workarounds mentioned in new kernel announcement, but it
didn't help.
Thanks.

permission magically changed
by Nadeem Bitar
Some process is magically changing :-) the permission of my home
directory and stripping the execute bit. I changed it back multiple
times but it's being automatically changed later. Any ideas how to fix
that? I already tried lsof but didn't find anything suspicious.
Thanks,
Nadeem

iptables-restore v1.2.9: Line 13 seems to have a -t table option.
by Hans Christian Studt
Hi,
I get this error message when trying to restart iptables.
========================================
iptables failed. The error was: Udskriver brandmurs-regler: [ O.k. ]
Sætter kæder til retningslinje ACCEPT: filter [ O.k. ]
Fjerner iptables-moduler: [ O.k. ]
Indfører iptables brandmurs-regler: iptables-restore v1.2.9: Line 13 seems to have a -t table option.
Error occurred at line: 13
Try `iptables-restore -h' or 'iptables-restore --help' for more information.

========================================
This is what netfilter has about such errors:
---------------------------------------------
http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/FAQ/netfilter-faq-3.html#ss3.20
3.20 'iptables: Invalid argument' after kernel update (nat table)
You have just upgraded your kernel and suddenly some of the commands (especially in the 'nat' table), and you experience something like:
# iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables: Invalid argument
This happens when the structure size between kernel and userspace changes. You will need to recompile the iptables userspace program using the include files of your new kernel. This only happens if you (or the vendor of your kernel) has applied some patches either only to the old or only to the new kernel. It is not supposed to happen between vanilla kernel.org kernels. If it does, please inform the netfilter-devel mailinglist.
---------------------------------------------
But i am using plain vanilla fedora core 2 kernel and iptables an is trying to setup MASQUERADE
-t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE

How Can I Improve Linux Speed
by Donald_Sass@gov.nt.ca
In order to acquire some self education and to experiment with Linux, I
loaded the Gnome 2.0 Fedora Linux release onto an old 200Mhz 64K
laptop. The laptop previously had Windows 2K installed.
The laptop performed reasonably using W2k and it was an acceptable
machine for small applications (spreadsheet, word processing, etc). The
Fedora Linux O/S is very slow, it is unusable for any application.
Is there something wrong, should Fedora be as fast as W2K?
Thanks for any help.

Reository wisdom (not lookin' fer howtos)
by Brian Fahrlander
Well, my research into LDAP for authentication is showing GREAT
benefits over NIS, and I have a third machine (for the home) installing
upstairs as I type this. This one's delay due to a dirty CDROM, and I
have to go 'hit' it once in a while. An FTP install would probably be
more accurate, if the bandwidth is available.
I'm curious about repositories; since these could be massive groups
of PCs (say, hundreds or thousands) it should make sense to maintain a
separate repo (yum, presumably) on a server somewhere.
My question is, with all the questions about repo stability and
such, what's the best way to go about it, strategically? I'm talking
about whether I should find a local college to sync with, get it
straight from fedora.us, or exactly what seems to go into making a nice,
stable mirror?

sony clie tj37
by sergio
Hi.
Any help on syncing my sony clie with mozilla or something else would be
nice.
I've looked over some how-tos but they skip many details which I can't
handle yet. So I'd prefer a newbie kind of explanation.
Thanks.

Re: Gnome tweaks

I don't know how or if you can do this with a single click but you can set the
behavior to roll up or roll down in the windows preferences on a double click.
