FC2, keyboard and emacs.
by Esben Østergaard
Hi all
I am having problems with my KeyTronic 105 key Danish layout keyboard
and some applications, like emacs and OpenOffice. I noticed the problem
in FC2test3, and now also in a fresh install of FC2.
In both openoffice and emacs, nothing happens when I try to type the
special danish characters "æøå". But even worse is it, that when I press
for example "alt-gr 4" to get the $ character in emacs, emacs locks up
and I have to xkill it or press ctrl-c in the parent terminal. If I try
to close it using the "x" in the top right corner, I do not get the
"force quit" dialog box. If I change keyboard layout to german, I have
similar problems, so i do not think the problem is tied to the Danish
layout. In mozilla and in the terminals, everything works fine. It might
be a related but that makes me unable to copy from emacs and paste to
this mail window.
I assume this has something to do with incompatibility between xorgs
keyboard drivers and some applications in fedora core 2. I have no idea
how to fix it, and it is a really annoying bug, since I often need to
xkill emacs while programming.
I am wondering if anybody have a KeyTronic keyboard (looks like a very
normal keyboard) that does not have this problem, or if anybody knows
how I can fix this.
Apart from this, I think FC2 is great!
Kindest Regards,
Esben

Network/Modem woes
by Sam Stinson
Hello again,
Thanks for the tip about "su -" to get access to insmod.
Now, when I have run the installation script and restarted, I see start-
up notes that say the .o files (from compilation in the script)
are "external symbols." Of course, this puts me in the same position I
was before.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Sam

Nautilus issues on upgrade forn FC1 to FC2
by Marc Bruggeman
Hi,
I had removed the side pane while I was still working on FC1.
Now that I have upgraded to FC2, I don´t see any option or possibility
to restore the side pane (in the Nautilus view menu I do not have the
show Side pane option !). Also the possibility to run a script is not
available in the file menu of any nautilus window I open ?!
clicking on the View > Reset view to defaults does not help/change
anything.
Can anybody give me a clue on how to get the side pane back ???
Thanks,
Marc

Fedora Overview: Generic Dislikes and Problems
by Ragone_Andrew
I have been pretty satisfied with RedHat/Fedora in the past. I am currently trying to add it onto my desktop but it seems that it does not want to cooperate. Anyway, the general feature that have been implemented that I dont like [or would like to implement] are as follows:
-Always having to right-click and Browse Folder instead of the old filebrowing structure
-Graphical startup [like the first boot with the computer icon and feature to view the text in a graphical window]
Problems that seem to recur:
-Random unstability [freezing and unrecoverable blank screens]...Linux is usually stable and im really suprised FC2 has turned out this way so far.
That occured on my main system that I am trying to run plainly on Lin and not Win anymore. No problems [that I know of] on my Server that runs FC2 as well. My sys has Athlon64 where I have tried both 32 and 64 bit installations both with the same or similar problems. I am not sure if it is because of 2 CDROM drives which seems to be a hot issue on bugzilla.
Hope you dont mind the comments and if anyone knows of ways to fix these problems let me know...

Xfce with FC2
by bob@brong.com
Hi,
I'd like to try XFCE, and although it says its distributed with FC2, I cant
find it within the distro. It's not found with up2date or yum (I added
livna, too). Any help would be appreciated. Does it come with FC2 or am I
crazy?
Thanks,

It does. But..
ifconfig ath0

Netgear WG511 && WEP (on an emachine)
by Anthony Presley
Hi All --
I recently picked up an eMachine 6805, and got it up and running FC2,
using the 64-bit version of the OS. Overall, it's not bad.
I realize that the Broadcom 802.11g chip is a LONG way from being
supported, at all (any change in this?), so I went out a picked up a
Netgear WG511, 802.11g. This card uses the prism54 module / driver, and
works VERY well if I do not use WEP.
However, if I'm using WEP, it doesn't work at all. It cannot fetch an
IP address, or anything. The hex key is being stored in
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/keys-eth1, in the format:
KEY=s:XXXXXXXXXXXXX
I've tried with several different keys (always key 1 on the router), and
two different routers / access points / firewalls. Under Windows, this
same card has no problems.
Is WEP working with prism54? What about on the 64-bit kernel?
What else am I missing?
