FC2 test3 and nVidia driver
by Tim Alberts
Anyone know the situation with nVidia and their graphics drivers. I've tried
to install the graphics driver on FC2 test2 and FC2 test3. Neither worked.
I sincerely hope that nVidia plans on updating their video drivers to support
the 2.6 kernel soon.

RE: up2date hanging
by Steve Pyatt
I had this same issue. On top of about a dozen others just getting
started. I ran it several times before it seemed to get everything
correctly. The nice thing is once it is downloaded, it did not download
again. You might try running just a few of the packages instead of all
of them. It didn't seem to really matter though.

Subject: up2date hanging
Hi folks,
having got the network working I decided to run up2date.
Having taken most of yesterday downloading (102 updates) I left it
overnight.
This afternoon when I returned to it, the download had finished and it
needed me to click a button before proceeding (?).
I clicked about 4 hours ago and then sat watching the hourglass. The
hourglass is still spinning and it's time to go home again.
Two questions
1) should it take this long? (Celeron 700 with 120MB (8MB stolen by
graphics
card)
2) if I kill it and start again, will it a) do better next time, and b)
need to re-download everything.

BitTorrent help
by russell
I installed the BitTorrent client via Yum using the FreshRpms
repository. I can't seem to get the program to run. I'm probably
overlooking something obvious but can't seem to figure it out. Any help
would be most appreciated.

printer not listed
by Jay Daniels
My printer works fine under Fedora. It's a Lexmark E323 with
postscript (emulation?).
However, I had to pick generic postscript printer in cups. What is
the file I need to get from Lexmark (file extension name?) to include
the proper support for this printer in cups so it shows up in the
list when setting up the printer?
I realize that there is a binary Linux driver for this printer, but I
don't think it's needed since the printer works out of the box with
the generic postscript under cups. I would need some type of spec
file for this specific postscript printer?
We have already tried the lexmark 323 linux driver and the print
quality is no different than the cups generic postscript driver.
However, I have not tried printing envelopes, lables, using special
fonts, etc.

If at all possible, I would also like to know if anybody has any suggestions
of software to convert from .vob video files to either mpeg or avi or
anything else that is compressed.

1 of 2 CDROM freezes
by amar_for_linux
Hi,
I have got two CDROM drives on my PC (99 make, P2, 512MB, dualboot-
win2k/fedora core1). CDROM1 (read/write) gets recognized but CDROM (read
only) just hangs on being accessed.
ATAPI CD-ROM DRIVE 40X MAXIMUM (hangs!)
Samsung CD-R/RW SW-224B. (ok!)
One gets recognized as SCSI drive (samsung, about 2 years old) and is
operational. The other drive gets recignized as IDE (ATAPI, about 5 years
old). Anything I try simply does not work. The system just hangs and I need
to restart. Even saying "eject cdrom" hangs the system.
When I boot with GNOME, it just hangs in the startup screen (on the CDROM
icon). KDE allowed me to get in and check out the drives from the shell. I
am lost as to what needs to be done next. Any help would be great guys!
Thanks!

A reboot user
by WipeOut
Hi,
I have a colocated server and when I have to get them to reboot it they
just hit the power switch which can't be good for filesystems and
databases..
Is there a way I can create a user account that will reboot the server
on login?
This way I can give them a user account and they simply login with that
account and it reboots the server..
I am guessing I need to create a login script or something similar but I
am not sure how to get the system to execute the script at login if that
is the way to do it..
Thnaks..

RE: disk problems or false alarm??
by Guolin Cheng
Hi, William,
Thanks.
Then how to increase PCI IDE disk speed through adjusting PCI bus
speed? What I've said is: even I tried to improve PCI bus speed by
specifying "idebus=66", the sustainable PCI IDE disk data transfer speed
is still about 33MB/s, while the hard disks themselves may be capable of
providing higher speed. Thanks.
I definitely know apple and orange, both fruits are my favorite. :)

You are comparing apples to oranges. idebus is the PCI speed in Mhz.
33MB/s is the bandwidth of the PCI bus.

Changing files in a bootable ISO
by Ow Mun Heng
Hi Guys,
Need some help. I downloaded an ISO (ultimatebootcd)
but some of the items there are either not working or outdated.
I've Dl'ed some of the updates (img files) and I want to substitute
those with the ones currently in the ISO and then burn them into a
new CD.
Is this possible??
mount -t loop /path/to/iso /mnt/iso
what do I do then??
Cheers, .^.
