Latest FC kernel still have SMP bugs?
by Mitch Wiedemann
Is the FC1 2.4.22-1.2174.nptl kernel still having problems with SMP and
hanging?
I'm due to install some MP servers soon and want to avoid problems
(imagine that!).
If said kernel is still having trouble, what's the easiest fix?
Thanks in advance.

Taming the mailing lists?
by Elliot Lee
If you feel that the Fedora mailing lists are becoming a little
unmanageable or are not as valuable as they could be, would you take the
time to e-mail me with your thoughts on the problem? (private e-mail is
fine) If you think that there's no problem at all, hearing that opinion
would be useful too!
Thanks in advance,

dist-upgrade killed my gnome
by Michael G Thomas
After doing the following manual dist-upgrade to fedora1 on April 30:
["apt-get install abiword arts arts-devel automake cdda2wav cdrecord

gtk+-devel gtk2 gtk2-devel kdebase kdeedu kdegraphics kdelibs
kdemultimedia kdenetwork kdeutils libmusicbrainz libmusicbrainz-devel
libpostproc libpostproc-devel libwpd libwpd-devel libwpd-tools mkisofs
mplayer openoffice.org openoffice.org-i18n openoffice.org-libs pcre
pcre-devel qt qt-MySQL qt-ODBC qt-PostgreSQL qt-designer qt-devel
redhat-artwork redhat-menus thinkeramik trm libgnomecups
libmusicbrainz20 wv -y"] I am unable to start gnome as user or root.
I tried running gnome apps from xfce but they segfault? Anyone else
see this? Any ideas? This is something gnome-specific because kde runs
fine as does xfce

Corruption

Hi,
Does anyone know how to check for corrupt files/disks, etc.?
I have some issues archiving my Mail directory (see subject: Tar/Zip/Rar
trouble) and am wondering if anyone knows how to check this?
Thanks,

Connecting to Microsoft VPN
by Brian Sawert
I'm running FC1 on an old Thinkpad 600. It's been wonderful, even as I've
slugged it out getting the MWave modem and quirky soundcard to work. But
now I think I'm really stuck.
I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft VPN at work. I think that PPTP is the
way to go, but I lack the basic knowledge for setting it up as a client.
Has anybody done this, or have some ideas of what to try?
Thanks!

Rsync and Compression
by WipeOut
Hi,
I have created a script that will backup some files from my web server
to my local server via the internet.. I will be using Rsync over SSH..
I am unsure of the best way to impliment compression since bothe Rsync
and SSH have the ability to compress data..
The options are either to use rsync compression..
rsync -z --rsh=ssh ...
or ssh compression..
rsync -rsh="ssh -C" ...
My thinking is that the Rsync compression would probably only be
effective if I was communicating with an Rsync server but since I am not
it would probably be better to use the SSH compression since SSH is
providing the transport..
Can someone confirm or deny this? or correct me if my thinking is flawed..
Thanks..

Command-line mail program that can send mail FROM multiple accounts?
by Preston Crawford
My wife has a couple different domain names and consequently a couple
different maildrops. I'm thinking of setting up an SSH server, fetchmail
and a command line mail program so she can check/send email remotely
from these multiple accounts. Is there a program that can handle this?
Pine wants to do <username>@whatever-domain-you-put-in-the-config.com.
I'd like her to be able to choose the from address, kind of like you can
in Evolution, Outlook, and other gui email programs. Any ideas?
