by Chadley Wilson

I am busy building a website for our production line,
I know a bit of html nut there are things that need doing that I cant
work out in html. I know I am being very vague here but I was wondering
what would be easier to learn online, and could some one point me in the
right direction to some sites that could teach me please?

RE: Best AntiVirus for Fedora Core 1
by Chalonec Roger
I am wondering if I need antivirus. I am using an FTP/SFTP server.
Does ClamAV scan uploaded files that are SFTP? Do I need an OS level
antivirus? Some have told me that Av is not needed on Linux. I am not
planning on running windows stores. A user will send a file to the
server with SFTP and a user will retrieve the file via SFTP. However,
both users will likely be using windows based systems.
Thanks for your time.

I'm a pretty big OSS advocate but there is a closed product called nod32
that just blows away everything out there. And fast, I scanned around 30
gigs in 11 minutes. I have not tried the linux version, but the windows
one found trojan/virii on
all 3 machines I've ran it on so far. Closed or not It's won many 'real'
awards. http://www.nod32.com/news/awards.htm

Can't run alsamixer and can't get sound from xawtv
by Gerrit
Hello,
I'm unable to run alsamixer:

What's happening? I do have sound, but not in xawtv.
I figured it might be a
My sound card is a intel8x0 chiptset, module snd_intel8x0.
I'm having tv card problems also...
I can get video but I'm unable to get audio output. The autodection of
my Pinnacle PCTV Studio/Rave is fine. For sound, I have an Intel 810

I read the Sound FAQ [0], but I didn't find an answer to my question.
I've seen that people have used this TV card in the past without
problems. At usenet, I read something about "you may need to
unmute line in', but I'm afraid I don't understand what that means.
Is it possible that it has something to do with ALSA?
Can someone help me?
Gerrit.

RAID level 5 question
by Prilly
Hi!
I'm thinking about setting up a software raid level 5.
Is it possible to start with 3 HDs and then later add more?
I mean, without loosing the data on the first 3 HDs.

Daniel

kernel: Out of Memory
by Tim
I've searched through the list archives and have been unable to find
anything that can shed some light on this issue for me. I have a base
fedora install that once a week when the log rotate happens runs out of
memory for some reason. The only package not in the fedora install I have
on the system currently is Dans Guardian.
System has 192 MB of ram and 256 mb of swap.
If I manually run the log rotate everything works fine, there must be
something else happening that I don't realize that is causing the memory
problems. I'm fresh out of ideas so any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

C2t2 install on HP DL360. Hangs at cciss
by Abbott, John
Hello list,
If I am posting in the wrong place, please let me know.
I just got Core 2 Test 2 and I am trying to install on a Compaq (HP) DL
360 with Compaq Integrated Smart Array 5i Controller. When I just try
to do a default install it hangs at a blue (pre gui) screen with a
message "Loading cciss driver". If I ctl-alt-F4 I see a screen that
tells me "Aborting ACPI routing and to try acpi=off".
So, if I do that,
Boot> linux acpi=off
I can seem to boot all the way through to the gui but when I go to
partition using disk druid it tells me I have no devices. And yet if I
go to a shell and view the dmesg, I can see it finds my disks at c0d0p1.
If I try to fdisk that device it fails.
Any suggestions?

up2date
by John Walsh
Hi,
I just installed Fedora core 1 (yarrow).
The up2date warning icon is flashing away (red (!) in gnome)...
but when I try to run up2date, I just get blocked by error messages:
* when run rhn_register
Invalid Architecture and OS release combination (1, i686-redhat-linux).
Your system has been registered, but will not receive updates
because it is not subscribed to a channel. If you have not yet
activated your product for service, please visit our website at:
http://www.redhat.com/now
...to activate your product.
* when run up2date
This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel.
So can anyone tell me how to register/associate my machine with which
channel in order to get the updates ?
Please, start from scratch, what do I do first, second, ...
Thanks,
John.
ps. the very first time I ran up2date, it did start downloading rpm's, but
there was a
problem with one of the X11 things (a bad pgp key ?) and so it stopped, and
since
then, whatever I run/configure/install/register - I just get errors...
I even tried downloading the latest up2date-4.1.21-3.i386.rpm, but when I
try to
install it won't let me - it really wants to hang on to the current rpm, and
won't let
me install/upgrade to the new one.
