Brazillian users
by listas@lozano.eti.br
Hi!
What about that site or mailing list for brazillian users? If nobody wants to
take acition on this, I'll submit it as a SourceForge project. Just let me know
if someone already did something, so I do not start another fedora-br web
community. :-)

PHP 5 Beta 2 Installs Fine
by Robert L Cochran
Just for the record, I was able to compile and install PHP 5, Beta 2 to
Fedora Core 1, using (nearly) the same configure options as the Fedora
version of php 4.3.3, with only one major issue: the configure script
issued a 'sanity check error' while checking net-snmp support. I'm sure
I have the right libraries installed, but it consistently errored out,
on net-snmp, so I removed the '--with-snmp=shared,/usr' configure line.
That allowed configure to succeed.
Now all I need to do is use PHP5. Which I definitely plan to.

cdrom errors
by Simon
Hi
I have an LG CRD-8400C cdrom drive. My problem is that i get errors during
boot up, and the cdrom locks the pc if i insert a disk. From past experience
with redhat 9 i was told that putting
hdparm -d0 /dev/hda
into my rc.local file that dma would be disable and the drive would work
again, and this actually works. My question is though, is there any way to
remove the errors from appearing during boot up, and why wont dma actually
work? The drive works fine under windows without any settings changes.
dmesg output for hda:
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
hda: CRD-8400C, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hda: set_drive_speed_status: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: set_drive_speed_status: error=0xb4
thanks

writing the ISO files to CD
by Eric Greene
Could someone please tell me how do I burn the 3 ISO images from the Fedora download page to CD so that I can get the install going? I have burned 5 CDs now and none of them work - only one seems to be bootable but that disc doesn't have any Fedora information on it. Thanks very much, I have no idea what is going on with making a bootable disc. I am using a Nero 6 CD burning software demo.

Radeon 9700 Overheating???
by Matt Brei
Greetings,
Anyone having what seems to be a heat problem with a 9700 or any other
newer radeon that uses the fglrx driver from ATI for that matter. I
noticed that some of the desktop was starting to act funny.
(The best I can describe it is when you hold a Nextel cell phone near a
CRT monitor while in the middle of a call. The screen basically goes
nuts.)
Right away I shut down and opened up the case to feel the video card and
sure enough it was running quite hot. I didn't feel like messing with
it so I just left the machine off so it could cool down over night. At
first when I power up it runs fine. In the time that its taken me to
get this far into this message it has started again. I've tried another
monitor but get the same results. I think the GPU has cooked itself,
but no worries, the card is under warranty for another few months.
Fedora Core 1
Radeon 9700 AGP
Pentium 4 2.53
fglrx glc22 4.3.0-3.2.8 i586
Kernel 2.4.22-1.2129.nptl
Let me know if anyone else has or has had similar problems.
Thanks,
Matt

mplayer projector problems with Fedora
by William John Murray
Hello,
I have had problems using a projector under Fedora.
For most applications, when I plug the projector into my laptop
(DELL Latitude 610) the screen is echoed reasonably, but a
strip at the edge of the display is missing. Fiddling with
the 'Display' and 'Screen Resolution' don't seem to help (and
the dual head does nothing!). Shame, but not crucial.
However, with mplayer 1.0rc2 (locally compiled) the -vo options
xv and gl look fine on the laptop screen but give a 'blue screen'
in their piece of the projected image. I have never seen
that before. 'gl2' works, but is very slow and finally times out.
Finally 'dga' (root!) shows a completely corrupt image, but the
same on both screens.
-x11 sort-of works, but it cannot be resized and is not very
nice.
Any ideas anyone?

vsftpd and iptables
by J. Scott Amort
I'm experimenting with a Fedora Core 1 server, and so far, everything is
running quite well. However, there appears to be a change in the
firewall rules that is causing a bit of a problem for vsftpd. I ran
redhat-config-securitylevel to allow for access through port 21, but the
firewall is blocking passive connections. I added port 20 as well, but
that didn't seem to work. What port do I need to open up? Thanks for
any help.

Scott
