Can we remove specspo/desc, specspo/summary statistics from the individual language statistics page? I am not sure about other teams, I personally don't like to see it on Gujarati Statistics page. So, I would like to remove specspo statistics from http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/gu/fedora-9 page.
I would like other teams to opt-in, if you also prefer to do the same. May be, we could request the infrastructure team or Dimitris to remove the specspo statistics from the individual language statistics page.

Just look at the statistics of the module "specspo". http://translate.fedoraproject.org/module/specspo Do you see any language completed more than even 50%? No...
The reason is obvious, it's too huge to translate and another reason would be I think, it's not really important for the "end users" too, who actually use "Localized Desktops". For them package summary or description doesn't make much difference as they understand the use of packages through help files/manuals only. They don't go by RPM specs - summary or descriptions I think. So, most of the language coordinators are not translating this package.
So, I would like it to be removed from the *individual language statistics page only*, Not from the "individual module translation statistics page".
It will help me to track the progress of translation of my language, for the important/core packages only.
Still, I am not so keen on getting this removed from the statistics page, but thought may be other language coordinators too thinking the same thing, so expressed my idea.

In my opinion we should try a different approach with specspo. It could be divided into small and categorized modules, so we would be able to define our priorities. For instance, a module only with the description of packages from the DVD set and other module with the ones left.

Here size doesn't matter. Everything is translatable only. Here am completely agree with Ankit. Plz tell me whether this module is useful to "End User" or not?
If it is not useful then why I have to put my effort into it.
I think it is useful. Specially when users search for a functionality or a characteristic. In general they expect to see it on their languages.
I am sure that specspo is not a priority for most teams, but even so it is important to have at least the most important strings translated, in my opinion.

I guess this info is used by tools that manage package installation/removal, upgrades and the like (not sure exactly). That said it's useful.
+1 to the idea for splitting this into separate modules (based on package functional groups may be) so small teams can translate what they think is important.

I agree. This way even small teams would have a chance of translating those descriptions and summaries which the basic user sees while doing a Fedora install.

You mean you are using the google gadget for translating it ? If so, would you please give a comment on how to use it to this list ? so other people can use it. I saw that spanish translations are 80% acceptable, and I told about this to Dimitris. Maybe (if license allows it) we can use it for a first step translation, marking translated strings as fuzzy. I was imagining in that tool available inside poEdit or KBabel.

The translation has been done in a "primitive" way. We are using Google Docs itself. The worst thing about this is that we had to divide summary into 25 small parts and copy them to Google Docs, because it only allows HTML-sized files. Each translator is taking some of this parts and when they are finished I put the edited the parts together and commit them.
It is working pretty well and I think we will have summary 100% translated before F9. If someone else is willing to do something like this my tip is: be organized. If two translators are on the same part at the same time you have to set a policy telling them where they have to start editing, in order to avoid the translation of the same strings two times.

We firstly explored a way to split the file in chunks by using standard tools and merging them in respect of the po file format, but this doesn't seem really functional. Gobby seems to be the right tool because it allows to keep centralized the file during concurrent modifications, but I didn't found a way to use it as po editor; I mean, Gobby can only be used as editor of generic text. Anyone knows if there is any kind of integration with po files editors (poeditor, kbabel, gtranslator)?

I've tried this morning, and it seems that gobby can not work well with a heavy file. When I tried to open summary/ja.po (2.2MB) from my machine, it took a while and disconnected. Creating a empty new file and copying&pasting into it does also not work well, simply I can not paste. Any idea or tip?
