This is a request to break the string freeze for pirut to add some error messages when handling repo editing. Not doing so means we either need to a) rip out the capability b) not handle errors c) only give a generic "Error" type of thing rather than useful error messages d) don't mark the strings for translation and have them show up in English only

I'm in favor for changing the strings since it's early enough (string freeze was just yesterday).

I noticed that the pirut .POs files weren't updated automatically. I gave a msgmerge and I got 13 fuzzy and 19 untranslated strings in the Brazilian Portuguese file. Other translators might need to update the files manually too.

Summary: 3099 fuzzy, 3336 untranslated Desc: 1443 fuzzy, 4643 untranslated
It looks very weird to me. The desc merge took 3 hours!
Does anybody know if this is right?

Something has stopped automerge script running on the server. It has been fixed now. The cronjob will run it tonight. Thanks for pointing out the problem.

Sometimes I really fail to see the benefit of having summary and desc in Fedora: sure it's nice to have them localised when the user is browsing for software, but this should really happen upstream where the software is coming from so all distros can benefit?
Even then, getting all this metadata for all the languages across the network and parsing it everytime you run yum/pirut is IMHO quite wasteful and slow, so even if it's only used in anaconda and only when installing from DVD it still seems more trouble and valuable translator time for questionable benefit...

Milos and Marek have pointed out a good question too. Looking at this merged desc and summay, we can see that there are about 8.000 entries from each one. Maybe it is time to reflect if it is viable to translate these modules. I believe it is important to translated the summaries of the packages on the DVD set, in order to use them with anaconda. Anyway, those 16.000+ entries look too much for any translation team.

The cron job will check if the .po is updated against the .pot file to decide if a merge is needed.
