What about uploading localized screenshots instead of translating them?
For example, doc writer can put the original English screenshots on the wiki
or somewhere, translator or other contributor upload their own languages
screenshots for the documentation.
If there is no localized screenshot available for use, then we might to
consider translation.
I am not fan of this solution.
Currently, publishing a doc is a hand made process:
- checkout the right guide, the right branch
- pull translations
- build the doc in the language
- publish the built doc
- commit & push.
Here you want to add a new step, "downloading and replacing
screenshots", that would be really time consuming.
(We want to automate the publish process, I don't know where we are here).
In docs they avoid a maximum to use screenshots, mainly because of
this lack of translation feature.
Implementing this through transifex would be really great.
