"About This Computer" and GDM strings
by Igor Pires Soares
Hello L10n folks!
String freeze is coming and I'd like to have some strings translated.
However, I'm facing problems with two specific modules.
There is a "About This Computer" string in Fedora's gnome menu that is
not actually from gnome-system-monitor, gnome-menus or redhat-menus.
This a Fedora customization. There is a wiki page where this string was
translated [1]. I made some changes in the pt_BR translation during the
F10 translation cycle but it didn't get into the distribution. I guess
other languages also need to translate/update this string, but IMHO this
is not a good way to do this and I am not sure what component should I
file a bug against.
The other issue is about GDM. Probably due to downstream customizations
in Fedora and gdm rewrite, some strings are in English even if the
upstream is a 100% translated. The "Password" string is one example.
There is a bug filed for this [1] but it is almost one year old. I would
like to know if this is still only happening with pt_BR or other
languages too. This happened in F10 and is happening again in Rawhide
for us.

FLP-admin: Minutes from first meeting (24-Feb-2009)
by Dimitris Glezos
- New Transifex features important for translators:
- Both statistics and submissions in one application
- Up-to-date statistics
- Upon file submission, statistics will be instantly updated
- Speed improvmenets over Damned Lies (static media, caching)
- Progress for Tx setup for F11 on schedule, looking good
http://publictest14.fedoraproject.org/tx/
- Plan to have it ready 5-7 days before string freeze
- Backup plan if it's delayed by a few days: Continue with current
infrastructure until new Tx is in place
- Djamned Lies with publican-support will be ready on publictest15 by 27/2, and
can act as a backup-plan for publican support in Transifex
- Publican support: Should be ready before April (docs string freeze). Plenty of
time for this.
- L10n branching: needs more discussion with developers, not something we can
solve for F11
- Tx could pull from tarballs and submit PO file to bugzilla easily
- Tx command line submission of translation files (after F11 release)
- Next Meeting Monday 2 Mar 11AM UTC

Re: CVS problem
by Tian Shixiong
Sorry, I didn't say it clearly :-)
Yes, I tried to delete the IP/Server in the known_host,but it didn't work.
Then I removed the files on the .ssh directory and generated the new one.
The new one only contained two files: id_rsa.pub id_rsa, the original
directory contained 5 files.
I have heard of something about changes in the Fedora infrastructure...
But, I don't know what to do to make that work :(
I think I will continue to use transifex before I fully know how cvs works.:)
Thank you!

Oopss!
I never said to delete ALL the files. Just the server entry from ONE file.
Well, but I believe you configured things correctly after the delete. :)
So, the problem is in another place.... I have no more tips. :(
Are you sure about the server? I heard something about changes in the
Fedora infrastructure...

RE:CVS problem
by Tian Shixiong
Rui Gouveia,
Thank you for your suggestion, but it still doesn't work.
I tried to delete the files in ~/.ssh directory, and run the command:
ssh-keygen -t rsa
to generate a new key, then I replaced the file id_rsa.pub on Fedora
Account with new one.
But this doesn't work also.
The output message said that the authenticity can't be established............
What should I do?

Hi,
Just delete the entry for the ip/server that yo are trying to access
from the file
/home/tt/.ssh/known_hosts, as stated in the warning.
Hope that helps.

Attention FLSCo: L10n infrastructure proposal
by Paul W. Frields
Hello L10n team,
This message is primarily intended for people on the FLSCo, but I hope
it is of interest to other Fedora L10n community members.
With any large team effort, it's natural for there to be specific
areas of expertise that emerge among the group. For instance, Fedora
recently appointed -- more or less by consensus -- Ian Weller as our
Fedora "wiki czar." He has done such a tremendous job of maintaining
the wiki and setting up sane rules for usage that we needed to
recognize his efforts with the official capacity to carry out those
important duties.
In much the same way, there is a core group within the Fedora L10n
team that has become very much concerned with the development of
infrastructure that allows community translators to easily help with
translations. This group includes Dimitris Glezos, Asgeir
Frimannsson, and Diego Búrigo Zacarão, among others. These
contributors, through working on the various instances of Damned Lies
and Transifex, have shown their commitment to a stronger translation
infrastructure in Fedora and beyond.
Over the past year, there have been some misunderstandings or
miscommunications about current and future translation platforms.
Sometimes one piece of the platform is blamed for the problems of
another piece, or there are problems in keeping the whole L10n team
aware of progress being made. I believe these are problems that could
be solved by a small, dedicated group, if they are entrusted by the
FLSCo to do so. That is why I am asking the FLSCo to approve and
support a "Fedora L10n Infrastructure" team, which will be accountable
for moving the Fedora translation platform forward starting now.
The FLSCo is elected by the community to ensure that the entire L10n
team has what it needs to continue bringing the best of FLOSS in
Fedora to the widest possible audience. One of the things they can do
to ensure that success is to place accountability for the development
of the L10n infrastructure in such a core group. This is exactly the
same way the FESCo has empowered both the Release Engineering and
Spins groups to take care of specific pieces of Fedora work.
There are several very important pieces of work that need to be
accomplished to provide a solid infrastructure for the L10n team for
Fedora 11 translations. The Beta freeze is approaching quickly, and
there is still some testing needed to ensure that platform will be
ready for translators. This Fedora L10n Infrastructure team should
collaborate with each other -- and with the general Fedora
Infrastructure team as needed -- to produce a satisfactory platform
for Fedora 11 translations and beyond. They should also be reporting
their plans, decisions, and progress to the FLSCo whenever needed, and
regularly to the entire Fedora L10n team through this list.
So, in summary:
* I would like the FLSCo to approve and support placing accountability
for the L10n infrastructure in a four-person group, including
Dimitris, Asgeir, Diego, and one more person on whom those three
people can agree.
* I would like the FLSCo to do this within the next 24-48 hours -- in
other words, as soon as possible, to make sure we have sufficient
time for the necessary testing.
I hope FLSCo members will agree and give a "+1" to my proposal. Thank
you for reading and for all your work in Fedora -- your contributions
make our project a truly global force in free software.
