Docbook translation

Our project uses Docbook XML to generate manpages. Is there a good way
(and a good resource on) configuring Docbook XML for multiple-language
support so that we can generate translated manpages?

Error in release notes de.po
by John J. McDonough
The German translation give an error on the string "Network Interface
Management". There are two occurrences of this in the po (!), one of which
had some odd messages preceding it. I'm not sure what these mean, but the
error from Publican is:
the translation of '<title>Network Interface Management</title>' doesn't
start with a tag.
The two pecular lines in the po surround the line
#. Tag: title

Re: Branch 'f12zeroday-tx' - po/pl.po
by John J. McDonough
Piotr
When we switched to the f12ga-tx branch on release notes, I changed the job
that was building the "beta" release notes to that branch. Unfortunately,
when we switched to the f12zeroday-tx branch, I forgot. I have since
changed it, and I ran the pl-PL which is now at
http://fedora.is-sixsigma.com/F12beta/pl-PL/. All the languages will
continue to get rebuilt each night (US time).
It looks as if a few more errors have crept in during the week or so the job
hasn't been running. I'll see if I can't identify them and post them to the
trans-list.
The schedule has us making a "final" RPM on Thursday, so any translations
that want to be in the RPM will need to be complete by then. I don't see a
reason that HAS to be Thursday, though, so if it looks like we might get a
few more translations by dragging our feet a couple of days it might make
sense to do that.
Only a handful of languages went into the release. As more reach 100% we
are posting them to docs.fedoraproject.org. We may well make additional
update RPMs during the life of Fedora 12. How many depends on what errors
we find, what translations become complete, etc.
Some of you may have noticed a new f12-temp branch. We got quite a list of
typos, and decided to correct them in that branch. Most were truly typos,
not really likely to affect the translations. Eventually we will merge them
back into the main branch.

We did proofreading a bit late because of some random real life
troubles. Could you please re-generate Polish release notes with this
new revision?

Country: Germany
FAS user name: moerderblume
Language to translate: English <=> German
Student status: pupil at a German Gymnasium
School: Enangelische Schule Frohnau (Berlin)
Me and the Fedora Project:
Long time I worked only with Windows (first: 98, then XP and later Vista or today for testing 7 RC). But also at that time I did trips into the "Linux-World". But at this time (circa 6 years ago) I wasn't at the level to learn easily another way of working with an operating system or the programs running on it (for example office). In my closer past I learned much more about the idea behind Linux and the problem with the by Microsoft developed standards which prevented competition on the market of operating systems and other software. So I decided to get to know with Linux and to switch parts of my working at / using of my computer to a Linux operating System. At least I tested Fedora beside some other distributions and decided to take it as my new operating system.
Other interesting projects / things to work at:
Docs, wiki, Software-Development (participating in projects where I probably would be able to help)
What other projects or translations have you worked on in the past?:
I've never translated anything for anybody than myself because I'm a student. But at school we had to translate and to mediate, but I'm not really sure that this is "real" translating.
What level and type of computer skills do you have?:
I work since 4 or 5 years intensively with my computer at home and at school. Before I was only a normal user with no specific skill concerning computers.
What other skills do you have that might be applicable? User interfacedesign, other so-called soft skills (people skills), programming, etc.:
I'm able to write applications in Python or C# and I got also to know with C++, HTML, CSS, XML, MySQL and SQL where I know a bit more than the basics. In the first to languages I can also build Graphical User Interfaces or more complex code behind it.

Hi Rudi,
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation on docs maintain.
The Simplified Chinese translation for the IQSG had also updated since
the last time you built. Many lines in the PO file were corrected.
So please build that again when you feel free :)
Sincerely!

Needed pictures, and mail addresses, and some help
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi,
As you know guys, I have begun to build earlier an flyer/booklet/guide what
could later used by ambassadors to reach or get more contributors.
What I have thought is to have:
- an team info,
- team coordinator name
- picture of leader/coordinator face
- mail address of translation team leaders/coordinators (as Noriko has
adviced me), with a several line of introduction side by side on one page.
Maybe it could be fit also some other contacts method too (IRC nickname,
aso.)
I will do the same with the ambassadors, other groups, further teams too -
but maybe this will result an huge book about teams - however, I think it
will fit into one guide, but for an ambassadors booklet I must choose only
the event area teams, but full of ambassadors list. I think if somebody
wants to be a part of an team, the representative ambassador could tell the
right channel and direction to the person to reach contact.
So if you've got some time for me, please return for me the above requested
data, to fill up the pages.
Thanks,
Zoltan
PS: If anybody has ideas to share, don't keep it back.

Czech translation of IQSG
by josefhruska@upcmail.cz
>From yesterday, there is 100 % translation of Installation Quick Start
Guide in Czech in Transifex. Why it is not available on the Fedora draft
documentation web site?
Can anybody explain it to me please? (Sorry, I am still not very
familiar with all necessary steps that has to be taken between uploading
a translation to Transifex and its publication in software and/or web site.)

Adding yum translation submissions to Fedora's Transifex?
by Ville-Pekka Vainio
I've just sent the initial Finnish translation for yum
<http://yum.baseurl.org/ticket/335> which is why I'd like to discuss
about enabling Transifex submissions for yum.
Yum is already listed in Fedora's Transifex at
<https://translate.fedoraproject.org/projects/yum/yum-3_2_X/>, but
translation submissions are not allowed. There are some projects in
Fedora's Transifex which are considered as upstream projects separate
from Fedora, but still accept translation submissions (for example
Avahi, PulseAudio and PackageKit).
Would it be possible to enable translation submissions via Transifex? I
think it would make the whole submission process a lot simpler,
translators wouldn't have to make trac tickets and developers wouldn't
have to manually commit translations attached to those tickets. I
believe this might increase the number of translations and lead to yum
having more up-to-date translations.
I don't know the exact technical details of enabling the commits, but if
the yum developers are interested, we could talk about it with the
Fedora Translation Project.
