Desktop Effects in menu and other issues

In release-notes, string 163 (I'm using kbabel) there is a string that says System | Preferences | Desktop Effects, and d.e. is under System | Preferences | Look and Feel | Desktop Effects. By the way, I tested the rawhide and I have problems with compiz/beryl in a computer where Fedora 8 performs very well with full desktop effects enabled. Good job with X start-up and shutdown. It's fast now. And I was waiting for the USB Live media persistence. Release-notes says it comes now. :-) It would be useful when replacing desktop computers, for a fast configuration. Sorry if I send this to the wrong list, but I don't know where to say thanks to the development team. They are doing a great job release after release. Many thanks to the development team !!! A tiny wish for Transifex: The edit widget where the local file goes, is too short. Is it possible to have a wider one ? It is necessary to check that the selected file is the correct one. File names under my linux are like: /home/me/share/a-dir/another-dir/one-more/tfpo/ and it's too long for that widget's length. Would be nice to see the full path without scrolling the edit widget. kind regards Domingo Becker (es)

Request to become the maintainer/coordinator of turkmen language in Fedora Project

I'm Atamurat Sariyev from Turkmenistan. I'm already in ambassador group. I want to be the maintainer/coordinator of turkmen language. Right now there is no version of Fedora in Turkmen language. Self-Introduction: Oron Peled

Hi everybody, I'm from Haifa, Israel. A long time programmer, instructor and consultant in Unix/Linux systems and haven't contributed much so far (shame on me). My current goal is to advance the Hebrew translation of Fedora. Since there are active upstream teams for both KDE (my personal desktop) and GNOME and both desktops have pretty good BiDi support and reasonable translation state. [Note: BiDi == Bidirectional: Hebrew, like Arabic, Farsi and other similar languages is written right-to-left] However, there is no Hebrew support at all during installation! Being late to the F9 game, I've started with the quickest candidate and translated the comps module. Next week, when no more commits to code are possible, I'll try to put some time into F9 relnotes and announcements so we have at least something visible for F9. My longer goal for Fedora (F10?) is to add Hebrew support to anaconda. Together with the comps file it will enable complete localized installation and will lower the barrier to entry in my country. This will probably require adding BiDi support to anaconda. While I'm not a pythonist it may be a good chance to start playing a bit with this language (I had enough of C/C++/Java/Perl/sh) Two years ago I've added BiDi support (and some Hebrew translation) to the wesnoth game upstream. This was done via the fribidi library maintained by Behdad Esfahbod and was pretty easy (wesnoth code is organized very well) Hmmm... I haven't seen other BiDi languages use this and add their translations to this popular game... Arabic? Farsi? hint, hint... If nobody wants to be the Hebrew team maintainer, I'm willing to do it. A couple of anaconda error strings...

In doing some testing of various things within anaconda, I've come across a few fringe error cases which we really should be catching and presenting to the user with something other than a traceback. Unfortunately, this involves strings :-/ So, there are a few options 1) Leave as a traceback. You'll have to try pretty hard to convince me this is the right answer ;-) 2) Add the strings, don't mark them for translation. Similar to 1 for non-English users, but at least not a traceback. 3) Add the strings, mark them, get as much translated as possible. I'm really up for either 2 or 3 based on what people would prefer. We'll be building anaconda up until pretty late, so this shouldn't be a big problem. But I wanted to give people a chance to yell if they had a large problem Jeremy PS We're talking about a relatively small (10 at the way outside... I think I'm at 3 right now) number of strings

Macedonian coordinator

I'd like to let the list know that I'm stepping down as the Macedonian team coordinator for the localization of Fedora in Macedonian. Due to other increased work and personal related responsibilities i am unable to continue with the translation work as well as the coordinatorship for the Macedonian team. I've already sent an e-mail to our local mailing list so if there is someone that is willing to step up and take this role I'd be more than willing to help him out to get started and with any issues that may arise in the beginning.
