Changing the colophon

Our release notes "Colophon," which lists all the people who have contributed to the Release Notes, always accumulates names. In the past, we've never stripped out any old names. However, there is an important question we should resolve: How do we go forward from here? Options include: 1. Leave all the names on the list. a. ...because figuring out when someone's individual contributions are gone is REALLY hard, and people should be credited for that work as long as we think it might still be in the Release Notes or a translation somewhere. b. ...because people drift in and out of Fedora Project work, and shuffling names might not be a good use of time. 2. Erase the whole list and start over each cycle. a. ...because this is reflective of who's working hard on writing, editing, translating, and packaging this edition. b. ...because it's easier to track and makes for a more sane length and meaningful content for the Colophon. There are probably other options but they all involve some give and take, and more work overall. These options are equally easy to maintain, I think; we just need to discuss them publicly and then pick. The FDSCo should probably decide on a policy in Wednesday's meeting, but it would be good to hear what the L10N and Docs communities think. -- Paul W. L10n and Transifex

The majority of the translation I've seen on release notes is coming in via the new Transifex system. I'm really pleased to see that this system is gaining so much traction in the Fedora translation community. There are a number of people who continue to work hard to address any needs translators have in working with Tx, and I know there are more enhancements planned in the future. Suggestion: Translation deadline to be moved 1 week earlier

A few days ago we had a conference call with a bunch of folks involved in the release process of Fedora, in order to discuss the upcoming release of Fedora 9, and I was asked to represent the FLP. I mentioned one of the FLP "requirements" is to have packages repackaged after the translation deadline, which is on 7/4. Since the freeze date (date where packages are taken by RelEng) is 8/4, maintainers have only 24h to repackage. Some of them may do it in this short window and some others might not. >From what I understand, moving the feature freeze later is no option for now. In order to make sure packages F9 has as many translations as possible, we might want to move the deadline some days earlier, say from 7/4 to 3/4 or even a week earlier on 31/3. This means we'll have one week less to submit our translations, but a higher possibility for repackaging by the developers. The earlier we decide what we want to do, the earlier we can start letting people know about the date to repackage. Errors in Transifex

Hi, I found (at least I think so) two errors in transifex: First, when viewing the diff before submitting translations, the diff view is screwed up. It seems like there are newlines missing before every first "green" or "red" line, making the diff pretty confusing. Second, the "forward"-arrow on <https://translate.fedoraproject.org/submit/module/> points to an invalid URL, in the href-target is one "submit/" too much. Same is valid for the "backward"-arrow on the second page. That's it for now, thanks. Cheers. Dominik

FOR ALL TRANSLATORS: Please make sure that before you translate Release Notes, you translate the "Docs:: Common entities" module. If your language does not exist in that module, we cannot build or include your translations in the package of Release Notes. http://translate.fedoraproject.org/module/docs-common-entities If you are a command-line user/translator, you can do a "make validate-xml-<LANG>" to check your work as you go, and before you commit. There are 5 other modules which also pertain to Release Notes: Docs:: about-fedora homepage readme readme-burning-isos readme-live-image Remember that for these last 5 modules, as well as the release-notes themselves, you want the "devel" branch for the module PO. pirut pot file updated

As requested via bugzilla, I've updated the pot file in the pirut package. I don't think this will actually impact translations as I think transifex was already doing this before giving out po files (?) Also, FYI, pirut may not be shipped in Fedora 9. This is pending on the outcome of some PackageKit testing with the beta Jeremy

Remove specspo statistics?

Hi, Can we remove specspo/desc, specspo/summary statistics from the individual language statistics page? I am not sure about other teams, I personally don't like to see it on Gujarati Statistics page. So, I would like to remove specspo statistics from http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/gu/fedora-9 page. I would like other teams to opt-in, if you also prefer to do the same. I found four spots in the release notes where we failed to capture "Fedora 8" and replace it with "Fedora 9." If I make this change, it adds 4 fuzzy strings. Do translators want me to worry about this now, or make more fuzzy strings after we collect the PO files on 31-March? -- Paul W. Per language module assignement and overview

Is in transifex something like was on elvis - a way how translators can assign/reserve modules for them to translate? If there is more people working on translations, then this was really usefull. I'd also welcome if on the module translation overview page is visible, who, and when last time, the module was translated. BTW: How often is the statistic overview updated? freeze break: initscripts

Because I screwed up, the initscripts translatable strings have not been updated for Fedora 9. I'd like to do that now. The average fully translated locale will end up with ~108 fuzzies to clean up and 15 newly untranslated strings; diffstat of the changes yields 123 insertions and 87 removals. OK to commit? Bill

Yup, the dreadful discussion came up again. Some folks had to stay up late and some to wake up at 5am to make the meeting, so we need to try and fix this. Most of them needed a change of $SOURCE_PATH -> $SOURCE as well as other minor issues. The log message in Tfx is: Alexander Todorov plugins/po/bg.po Updated Bulgarian translation - 0 fuzzy and untr. 2008-03-17 16:57:26 At the moment: 18.03.2008 13:30 UTC I'm still seeing the old stats about this module at https://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/bg/fedora-9 The PO file served is still the old one. I've commited translation to firstboot several hours later and the stats were updated OK. What's wrong with setroubleshoot? How do I fix it? Fedora 9 Preview Release notes ready for translation

These release notes are going to be delivered with the Fedora 9 Preview Release. This provides time for bugfixes to the content and translations through the community review process. Access via Transifex: https://translate.fedoraproject.org/submit/module/docs-release-notes More instructions for other access methods are below[1]. This POT file is the largest untranslated/fuzzy file that Fedora Documentation intends to deliver for the Fedora 9 release cycle. During the rest of the release cycle the team will work to reduce workload for translators. Transifex not uptdate anaconda
