How to translate release-note
by Noriko Mizumoto
Hi Paul and Karsten
I've started the following for release-note translation.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs_Project_work_using_git
Now the following commands do not work for me.
make test
make validate-ja-JP
[noriko@noriko release-notes]$ make test
make: *** No rule to make target `test'. Stop.
[noriko@noriko release-notes]$ make validate-ja-JP
make: *** No rule to make target `validate-ja-JP'. Stop.
I tried to edit Makefile to add;
OTHER_LANGS = ja-JP
then
[noriko@noriko release-notes]$ make test
grep: ja-JP/Article_Info.po: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `test'. Stop.
I tried to change the language code to match the one under po/ directory
in Makefile;
OTHER_LANGS = ja
then
[noriko@noriko release-notes]$ make test
grep: ja/Article_Info.po: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `test'. Stop.
It seems that I need your help.

ko.po and new language
by Noriko Mizumoto
Hi Jared and Paul
Thank you so much adding new ko.po.
Does the Korean translator need to translate something for docs-common?
Any procedure to follow, if some language translator likes to fresh
start of release note translation?
cheers

Colophon
by Paul W. Frields
There is a bug in the xml2po program from gnome-doc-utils, as found in
Fedora 9 and earlier (including RHEL 5). It prevents us from using
non-ASCII characters in parsed character data in DocBook, such as
people's names in the Colophon. If we use non-ASCII, we cannot properly
validate the DocBook XML content.
There are several ways to solve this. One of the easier solutions is to
no longer include the colophon in the actual release notes, but link to
it from the document. However, this has the side effect of removing a
public thank-you to our wonderful translators and documentation
contributors.
What we've done instead is to comment out these names, *only* until we
work on the final release notes for GA. At that point we will uncomment
the strings. They will end up as "untranslated," but I (or someone in
Docs) will try to make the appropriate PO changes to copy them as
needed. When we build the release notes, we will do it in Rawhide,
where xml2po is fixed. The names will then show up properly in the
rendered Colophon section.
This problem will recur in earlier releases, though, until and unless
someone asks the gnome-doc-utils maintainers to backport the fix (if
possible) to gnome-doc-utils in RHEL 5 and Fedora 9.

Requesting a string freeze break of comps
by Christoph Wickert
Hi everybody,
I'd like to ask for a string freeze break of the comps file for F10,
because I want to add a new group for LXDE [1] called lxde-desktop. See
diff below for the proposed changes.
Rationale:
People should be able to install LXDE with a single click/command.
Impact:
Minor, only two stings all together: The first one can not be
translated, LXDE will always be LXDE. The second string is the
description, which is not even visible in package kit these days. So
localization of this string is not really necessary but only nice to
have for 'yum groupinfo'.
Impact of not accepting the break:
If we don't add this group to comps the LDXE feature is definitely
washed-up for F10.
Sorry for the noise,
Christoph

Thanks for your report. I have added the following comment above the
string:
{{{
# TRANSLATORS: This is one of the options on the "Log File" tab of the
# "Settings" dialog. It directs auditd to store the system host name
# (the parameter replaced by %s) without any modification.

virt-ctrl vs virt-top
by Noriko Mizumoto
Hi
virt-top and virt-ctrl look same.
First five entries are same, and randomly chosen entry number 55 is same.
Any idea?

Disabling Translation Statistics for 'specspo'
by Asgeir Frimannsson
Hi all,
I have disable translation statistics for 'specspo' until we find a solution that doesn't kill the server.
Generating statistics for all modules and branches without specspo takes ~35 minutes. With specspo it takes 2 days.
cheers,
asgeir
