Transifex Live -- please test

Hi all. Since yesterday, we have been adding some live/actual modules on our Transifex instance. Yay! Right now we've got smolt and revisor, both on non-CVS repositories, accepting translations, and we'll incrementally add more: https://publictest5.fedora.redhat.com/submit/module/ Any translator (member of cvsl10n) can login to the application and submit a translation to the registered modules. The more people test these, the quicker we'll be able to say "OK, we are ready to add more modules". :) So, can some of you please submit some stuff on the live modules and play around? I'll keep an eye on the logs in case some error shows up. Online translation tool?

I don't remember if I brought this up in the past, but some people have suggested to add a tool to our translation infrastructure for doing translations online. Some translators might prefer it, so we could have that too (as long as it integrates with our existing workflow). Benefits: more people working on the same translation, lower barrier to entry, easier to handle big files, tools have workflow embedded (reviews etc). To the folks that are interested in working on our l10n toolchain, here's a small task: Interested in investigating this a bit more? :) Some Qs that we'd need answered: What tools are out there (eg. Pootle)? How do they interface with the VCS and what are the options for authentication? Transifex update -- added s-c-printer

Hi all. I've rolled out an update for Transifex, which adds support for system-config-printer (branch 0.7.74.x, available in F8). Looking at its stats, many languages could do a small update: http://translate.fedoraproject.org/module/system-config-printer#0.7.74.x Some new features in Transifex in the past 4 days: * Added choice to skip diff preview (useful for large diffsets) * Increased the form usability (fieldset boxes) * Added manual module update/pull (save CPU/network/responsiveness) * Fixed CVS synced patching * Fixed support for non-default branches * Enforced secure http. I feel it's close to a release, which means an RPM and move to translate.fpo/submit/. Confused

I'm a bit confused :) For years now I've been translating the Red Hat and Fedora tools using the system at i18n.redhat.com and all is well... Obviously I have not been paying the attention to this mailinglist I should have because yesterday one of my friends pointed out http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/is to me. No team, no Coordinator but thankfully, out work is there. In the system at i18n.redhat.com I'm listed as the maintainer of all the IS files but not in the translate.fedoraproject.org system. I presume one of those systems has a higher priority than the other ? -- Rikki. -- RHCE, RHCX, HP-UX CSA and CSE. -- Solaris 7 Certified Systems and Network Administrator. Bell Labs Unix -- Reach out and grep someone. Those who do not understand Unix are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.

l18n Signup page's tip is making newbies confuse

Hello! I lost my ssh keys that i used to create my account at Fedora Account System when I was reading wiki on how to work on l10n project and then I read about making an account on l18n. When i went there http://i18n.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-signup/ . In the ssh key section there is a tip to create new ssh key Your public ssh key < 1000 characters. Use ssh-keygen -t dsa. > The problem is this that the newbie doesn't know that ssh-keygen -t dsa is used to creat a new pair of ssh keys. At this point the newbie has followed all the foundation instructions and have already ssh and gpg keys on his system but after following this command he destroy his existing keys and make a new pair. Now while connecting to CVS he got permission denied error because the ssh key that exists in his sysem is different then the key that he uploaded in his Fedora Account System. LANG boot parameter (cheat code)

I was looking at anaconda's translation and found that pressing <TAB> and adding ' LANG=bg' or ' LANG=bg_BG' or the whole ' LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8' starts the installer in Bulgarian. This I think is the only way to see how the first messages shown in anaconda look translated. At the moment, nobody is maintaining the Norwegian bokmål language team, so I probably should start one. :) I have been translating for RedHat and GNOME for roughly 9 months now. TQSG update: Accounts and Subscriptions chapter should be excluded

So, it would made easy (in future) the development of a single Joining Guide for entire fedora Project System. The joining Guide should be made the prerequisite for TQSG. Testing and verifying changes to flpweb b4 LIVE

A quick note to remind that before committing any changes to the flpweb module XML files, a `make` should be run to make sure the files have correct syntax. Also, before made LIVE, the changes should be tested on a local version of the flpweb, otherwise with any errors the website might choke. FLP meetings

Hi, Today's meeting has been canceled, we've run out of topics to justify weekly meetings. As discussed earlier we're going to change the ritme of FLP meetings to a bi-weekly schedule. This means every even-numbered week the meeting will take place in #fedora-meeting at 19:00 UTC, so that means the first meeting with the new pace is next week. If anyone wants to give any updates on what you're working at the moment, don't hesitate to drop a note and let us know! Communication is the start of collaboration :-) Some reminders: 1. Today is translation freeze day[1], which means that translations for software must be in today to get included in the Fedora 8 release. 2. Release notes translation for Test 3 freezes tomorrow[2], but every language with some translation will be included in Test 3. revisor - error while reading the file header

Hi I have encountered the error of "There was an error while reading the file header. Please check the header." when opening the file of revisor/ja.po. This file has been downloaded from http://translate.fedoraproject.org/module/revisor. I see some other languages completed their translation from 'Log of recent submits' in transifex. Anyone could you please give me a hand how to fix this error? Many thanks noriko

im-chooser and system-config-httpd

I tried today to submit cs.po im-chooser translation thru transifex, however the first time I got error about "some technical problem", second time I tried that it says that the diff is empty and it will not commit. But web repo view shows there is still old file. What's up? For system-config-httpd the module overview shows some untranslated strings, however I can not get this file. What I see thru web iface is completely translated. How could this happen? Also one RFE - would i be possible to have also "Get" feature in transifex to download the po in selected language? I am now downloading files thru web front-end but this is not very comfortable and I struggle wherether I have correct files. The last question which is still not clear to me - how's that with those minus sings and exclamation marks in http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/cs/fedora-8 What should I do with them? Input on good fonts for various languages

As Nicholas Mailhot mentioned the other day, we've started playing around with a specific interest group on Fonts. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Fonts What we'd like is to have some input from the various localization groups on what fonts are best for each language/locale. The goal would be to have a table full of language <-> fonts, so we know which fonts should be packaged, and what fonts are available (and which of them are the best) for each language. Release Notes for F8 - first POT drop

Greetings L10N folk! Due to scarce personnel resources we are running a couple of days behind our schedule[1] for the Docs Project. However, I am getting the Release Notes ready for a POT drop today. Although the schedule currently has a "deadline" of 23 September, we will be extending this until about 26 September (2007-09-26). However, please keep in mind that your team does *NOT* need to complete ALL work by that date. Due to last-minute bug fixes and other errata, you can expect a few string changes over the next few weeks, although we will strive to keep them to an absolute minimum. You will need to complete all work by the listed date of 21 October (2007-10-21), subject to change if there are slips affecting the overall release schedule[2]. In the past we have included only finished release notes in the test3 release of Fedora, but that will NOT be the case for F8 test3. Any team that works on their release notes translation will have their work included in F8 test3. We would still like to include only finished translations in the final version to emphasize the professional polish of the distribution, but since I now have greater access to the fedora-release-notes package in the distribution, we will be more able to bring an update package into Fedora 8 during its cycle if additional languages are finished by some deadline date on which we can jointly agree. Reminder: the full fedora-release-notes package includes material from the following modules: * release-notes * homepage * about-fedora <-- (Almost no changes since F7) * readme * readme-live-image * readme-burning-isos <-- (Almost no changes since F7) For the best locale representation, make sure you visit each of these modules for updates. Translation section in Fedora Release Notes

Hi all. There's this idea floating in my head that we could have a section on Languages and Localization in the Release Notes. Some of the stuff we could mention are: 1. Number of languages Fedora is available at. For this we could take for example central modules like Anaconda, firstboot, etc and count languages with coverage above, say, 70%? 2. Updates from the formed localization teams. Eg. "New translation teams formed in this release include: a, b, c... 3. Updates on our toolchain that affected the release This could fit in the I18n beat as a "Language coverage" section. What do you think? Default console font

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to pop this question, but maybe some of you translators know something about it. I'm translating in Romanian and the default console font does not include all the characters I need to display correctly the romanian language. Is there a possibility to change the default language code according to the language ? The default latarcyrheb-sun16 does not include the following symbols I need: șțȘȚ and " which is replaced by " in latarcyrheb-sun16. Similar but not quite the same. I found that the font LatArCyrHeb-16.psfu does include them. -- Alexandru Szasz

Stats (not) updating correctly

I managed to find some time today to look into why our stats weren't updating correctly. I just made a small tweak to our update script that I believe has fixed the bug. yay. http://translate.fedoraproject.org/ Please check your language's statistics and report any problems at bug report #248260. Only modules that weren't using intltool for their i18n were affected. Damned Lies is designed to support intltool-enabled modules, ie. ones with the files POTFILES.in, LINGUAS, etc and build the POT file on-the-fly. Modules with POT files provided by the developer, ie ones not using intltool, will most likely *always* have more problems than the other ones, simply because upstream is not focused on maintaining support for them. Hello everyone! The Stringfreeze for Fedora 8 was on September the 25. In 14 days the Translationfreeze will be too. So, now we've to hurry, to get Fedora translated into other languages! For some languages there are big parts missing - others are nearly complete. So, PLEASE look at the status of your language and (if it's not already completed) improve the translation. Hi, How are built these pot files? There are macro and tag in spec(ification) files, that accept options to allow translations: Summary -> Summary(fr) %description -> %description -l fr So, as packager of some programs, I always add the french translation of description and summary in the spec file. I'm confused: why are there two status pages?

Hello, in the past I used this status page for seeing how far the translation is: http://i18n.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-status But now I found this page: http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/de/fedora-8 The confusing is, that the satuses are completely different. Example: the package policycoreutils in the German language seems to be finished in the first table, but in the other one, it's just finished to 62%. In my copy of the CVS-Directory it's finished. Witch one is the correct one? Why are there two lists? In the second list there are many 'Error-Symbols' - why this? Greeting, Michi -- Michael F.
