Does going to rc6 help?
With rc6 I've seen something strange related to audio output lately:
Active playback was silent. Opened the Sound Settings gui, everything
appeared to be normal. In the Output tab, I examined the "Connector"
listbox contents. Choosing "Analog Headphones" instead of my usual
"Analog Output" made sound work again. Why that became necessary,
no idea. A freshly booted system works just fine with "Analog Output",
which is the default it decided to use again.
