Looks like you (user "olivares") doesn't have
access rights to
/dev/dsp (getfacl doesn't list
"user:olivares:rw".
Try the following: as root run "chmod 666
/dev/dsp", and then as
olivares try again.....
Are you not running ConsoleKit/PolicyKIt? That should set
the acl to
allow you to access /dev/dsp.

I did the suggested changes, but still no sound :(
I checked alsamixer and all controls were set to zero, I changed them to 87, but still no
sound, Here's what I did. BTW, thanks Tom for being helpful and suggesting these
tips/tricks.
[olivares@localhost ~]$ ls -l /dev/dsp
crw-rw-rw-+ 1 root root 14, 3 2008-09-18 19:27 /dev/dsp
[olivares@localhost ~]$ getfacl /dev/dsp
getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
# file: dev/dsp
# owner: root
# group: root
user::rw-
user:olivares:rw-
group::rw-
mask::rw-
