It's new for users - people who don't build their own kernels (assuming
they're using PATA disks).
No, it's new for users that don't have scsi disks. You don't need to be
a kernel hacker to have run accross sd devices previously.
It seems reasonable to make this change for FC7. Whether it is a good idea
for FC5 and FC6 is another question.
