i've seen (f7) kernels failing on hp machines ocasionally. after removing rhgb quiet from kernel line on grub, the errors looked like it was acpi linked. indeed adding acpi=off to the kernel line made those kernels boot again.

I've seen this behavior on a DC7700 HP desktop.

After the installation, the machine hang during firstboot with
a grey pattern and a big X cursor.

The next installation was OK.
